does H/K equipped car have a different head unit?
Hi all,
I am thinking to pick up a bare bone M235i 8 speed. It doesn't have the Harmon Kardon. I guess I can do a much better job going aftermarket. Since the H/K cars have Logic 7 check box. Does this mean it H/K cars have a different head unit or they are all the same? p.s Is it possible to retrofit comfort access as well? Thanks for any inputs!!

Comfort access would be somewhat cost prohibitive as it would require retrofitting sensors for proximity, unless it uses the same boundary sensors that keep you from locking the keys in the car. Then you also need comfort access handles installed. Might be expensive.
The HK is controlling the programming in the amplifier, I think. I'm not sure, but I heard this from as credible a source as I can find. I plan to tap into into the stock system for a better system than either factory option. |

To add ipod connectivity and blue tooth to an e82 required a new head unit. If something that simple required one, I'd say yes, you need a new head unit for H/K.
I'd suspect that for 2014 cars there are many different head units. Base (no tech so no blue tooth, no HK). Then a specific Tech but no h/k. Then HK no tech, and finally a Tech and HK head unit. |
