Seat calibration required

Recently an alert showed up on my display: Seat calibration required.

The power seat controls seem to still function properly though I haven't tried every possible action yet.

I looked through the owner's manual last night but didn't find any instructions for seat calibration.

Any ideas?

It's a 2015 228i, M Sport, 6MT, - it has sport seats with power.

I had this issue in my previous bmw. Try moving the seat all the way back, then all the way forward, then I think back again. That's what cleared it for me.

It's in the manual under the safety heading. It's needs to know where the seat is for the air bags to work properly.

Funnily enough, i have my car going into the dealership next week for a(nother) drivers seat fix. Its they only component on the car I've had issue with. First, part of the seat bracket broke and needed replacement under warranty (a known issue supposedly) and now the driver memory profiles aren't saving and are putting the seat into some very obscure positions.

The technician tried fixing it when it was in for oil service but to no avail. Apparently it was throwing error codes when they investigated but they didn't specify what those were. It potentially needs some parts/ modules replacing for a full return to functionality and a two day stay with them.

I don't know how widespread the seating problems are, but there is definitely reason to believe BMW has more than a few gremlins (electrical and other) in this area.

Success! I fixed the car seat calibration issue. I pressed the Start button without starting the car, moved the seat all the way forward and then all the way back, pressed the Start button (off). After restarting the car the seat works fine and the error message is gone.
