Hi folks,

Just picked up my 2018 M240i last week and am highly frustrated with the lack of functionality of iDrive features which I had been expecting. I know this is nothing new for many. Let me lay it all out...

Canadian car (so ConnectedDrive is already useless...hopefully new app soon)
No CarPlay
Using iPhone 7plus running iOS 11.4
Have Bimmercode and Vgate (have already coded a few things)

So, my issues, where do I start...

1) not getting text messages
- comes in on phone but not relayed to iDrive
- I do not see options in the BMW Bluetooth selection for notifications
- under Notifications>Messages, I have everything selected
- CarPlay can't be the only way to get these to show, is it??

2) send to car feature not working from Google Maps or Connected Classic
- I know this has been an issue, has it been resolved?
- I tried using the GoDriving app that is supposed to work but it doesn't
- tried directly from ConnectedDrive Classic with GoDriving but still no

3) had iPhone connected via USB and running Spotify but couldn't change source
- wanted to switch to iTunes Music on phone but can't find option to stop Spotify and play iTunes

4) I know this is a coding question but asking here...can I code Nav map to show distance to next turn instead of showing in instrument cluster?


Any insight into any of these to help reduce my frustration would be greatly appreciated!!

Just to go over the list:

1) This has been removed from the iDrive (at least to my knowledge)

2) In Turkey we have the new Connected App, however, this feature seems to be a hit or miss from time to time so I don’t relly on it completely.

3) This really frustrates me as well but seems like the only way to do it so quite Spotify from the phone and opening the music app.

4) I believe it shows this when using the split screen with arrow view mode.

I had similar problems when I bought my 2016 M235. The Genius sorted it all out for me. It was basically an account issue. All have worked fine ever since. Give them a try. Unfortunately it is not intuitive as to what is wrong and how to get it going properly.

Well, I activated CarPlay (I never chose the ridiculous $750 option from BMW Canada) and items 1-3 are pretty much solved in one fell swoop. Why this isn't just standard is beyond me.

If you are having similar issues, Google CarPlay install (or maybe, even, ebay!) and you just may find someone out there willing to "help" you get this up and running. Works awesome even on my Canadian car!

No, but with CarPlay, if you use a Mac (maybe a way to do it on a PC as well), you can save favorite locations and it syncs with your iPhone. When you launch CarPlay, your favorites are there. Not quite the same but close.

Now, with iOS 12 coming out in the fall, CarPlay will allow third party navigation apps like Google Maps so, in theory, I would think you will be able to save locations and routes via GoogleMaps online and it will just be there when you are in the car and using CarPlay. No need to "send", it will just be there.
