Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Las Vegas, NV – January 5, 2017 … BMW scored two category wins in the inaugural JD Power Tech Experience Index Study (TXI) for the 2016 BMW 2 Series and BMW 4 Series. The TXI Study measures the driver’s experience, usage, and interaction with driver centric vehicle technology in the first 90 days of ownership. The awards were presented in Las Vegas at CES 2017 to Klaus Froehlich, Board Member for Research & Development at the BMW Group and Hildegard Wortmann, Senior Vice President for the BMW Brand.

The JD Power Tech Experience Index Study reflects customer experience with 35 technologies grouped in six categories:

Navigation
Entertainment & Connectivity
Comfort & Convenience
Collision Protection
Driving Assistance
Smartphone Mirroring

The BMW brand placed second overall and took two of three awards in the premium segment. The 2016 BMW 2 Series won in the Best Small Premium category while the BMW 4 Series won for Best Premium Compact. The BMW brand’s strong finish in the inaugural TXI Study is an acknowledgement by customers of the company’s commitment to being on the cutting edge of connectivity, infotainment and driver assistance systems.

BMW will show at CES 2017 that it continues to be on the forefront of this development. The BMW i Inside Future sculpture focuses on the opportunities and challenges presented by fully automated driving. BMW HoloActive Touch fuses the advantages of the BMW Head-Up Display, BMW gesture control and intuitive touchscreen functionality with revolutionary technology to create a completely new kind of user interface for the vehicle interior of the future.

It is small compared to everything else built today. Most of my friends don't know how I can live with a car so small. They drive Escalades and Tahoes and Expeditions, etc., etc.

Had an X5 as a loaner and it barely fit in my garage.

That's absurd. It's not small at all, even compared with other cars. The 2 series may be a "compact" with some stretch of the imagination. The 4 is easily a mid-size. It has the virtually the exact same footprint as an E39 5 series.

you also like to compare apples to oranges dont you. go to a car rental place and try to rent the 4 series as a "Compact" they will tell you its a midsize

My 3 series and yours too is considered compact. My insurance considers the 3 compact.

Rental cars are a bad example because they are trying to make money

You're missing the point. 2 sub compact, 3/4 compact, 5 mid size, 7 full size.

These terms are not relative to the past. They are relative to the present.

JD Power awards are pretty much ridiculous. There's an award for every car for everything. The company's business model is to give everyone an award of some kind instead of a participation trophy. And the public as well as car companies eat up the fraud.

(Fun fact: Once a week I park my i8 next to JD Power's HQs on Russell Ranch Road in Agoura Hills, CA and hike while the i8 is getting a charge. It's actually at the GM public chargers which is the next building over. GM stores its newest cars, often with wicked promotional paint jobs, in a fenced in area next to its building.)

great, now bmw will make their next 2er and 4er even bigger to try and escape the "small" and "compact" segment, respectively...

You're also comparing it to a car nearly 10 years older. Most cars these days have grown. Just compare an old civic to a new one. Everything gets bigger, so the definition has to change with the size of the car. I mean, I'd still call a 2 series more "compact" than a 4, so I get where you're coming from, but I don't make the rules...or definitions for that matter.

but the average size of the human hasn't grown. Neither have our roads, nor our parking stalls and garages. I agree with what you're saying though, but I think this trend of making cars bigger (thus heavier and less fun) need to stop. Like right now.
