M235i 55'000 km or M240i with 90'000 km
Hey guys,
Currently owning a 118d, I'm looking to trade it for something a bit more fun. Looking at the used market, here are 2 opposing options sitting at roughly the same price: Both have very similar options and configurations, at least regarding what matters to me. So I'm a bit torn apart between the lower km on the M235 and the most recent option with the newer engine in the M240. I'm looking for something that I will keep for the next 5-6 years and I'll be doing roughly 12'000km per year. In case you're interested, here are the 2 cars(in switzerland ): https://www.autoscout24.ch/fr/d/bmw-...asion-11028875 https://www.autoscout24.ch/fr/d/bmw-...asion-11123166 So what do you guys think? Any insights would be extremely valuable! |

M240I -
I looked at both and I think you should jump on the M240I.
1. Newer more powerful engine that responds amazingly well to modifications 2. It already has a good number of M performance mods on it that appear to be tastefully done. It's a better looking car overall based on the photos IMO Yes it has higher miles but the B58 engine is incredibly reliable. My car is almost at 105k miles and has been at least stage 2+ tuned for 60k of those miles. Now it has a much bigger turbo on it and never once have I had any kind of issue with it. As long as you keep up on your maintenance items and use quality oils and fuel it will serve you well for many years ( and be super fun !). |

Now my other option if I want the B58 in my budget would be to go for a M140i. But I'm not sure the added of the B58 is worth taking a 1-series over a 2-series for me. I mean, I do understand that the 40i are just better than the 35i but my point is: would the 35i not be good enough even if it's not the best?! Is it that much better? |

You’ll always find people that like the n55 over the b58. I have a s55 and b58. The b58 is no slouch and with relatively few mods you can get output similar to a stock s55. B58 sounds way better than the s55 (single will always sound better). I personally prefer the b58 over the n55. B58 revs smoother as you approach redline and it also feels more refined. I’d look for a b58 equipped model over a n55 equipped model; however, I wouldn’t go after a different model, especially if I don’t like it, just to get a b58. The M140i is not available in the US but I find it to look aggressive and I like the overall styling. I’d love to add a small BMW hatchback model to the cars I own.
