PCD route home tips?
Since the sticky for European Delivery is now worthless (yes I'm bitter) the next best thing is the PCD. I did it once in 09 and drove north but this time I'm headed west to Colorado.
Any suggestions on what cool roads to hit on the way back? I'm taking the Southern route through Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas because those are 3 of the last 4 States I need to visit to get to 50. |

I would head north out of Greenville on 276 and follow it to 64 then all the way to Franklin, NC then north on 28 to 129 (The Dragon). Then work your way over in TN to Arkansas (there is nothing really good for driving in Northern MS). In AR you can go North to Harrison and Eureka Springs or go South through Hot Springs and on to Mena and the Talihina Scenic Byway and on into OK. Both are good routes.

Curious if you were able to get a date? Trying to do this but dealer has been emailing them and earliest the can do is apparently late May and won't schedule until car is produced and has an estimated ETA

If you're planning on heading southwest from the PCD...along the route near Birmingham, AL is Barber Motorsports Park and Motorcycle Museum. The undulating track itself is manicured like a fine golf course and the motorcycle museum is extensive. https://barberracingevents.com/
You didn't mention when your pickup date is but there's an IndyCar race "scheduled" at Barber for the weekend of April 9-11. As you get towards Arkansas, as jzeiler4 mentioned, there's great roads around Eureka Springs (NWC of Arkansas) as its a mecca for many annual car club pilgrimages. If you "stop over" in Eureka Springs and love German food, don't miss the Bavarian Inn Restaurant. http://restaurant.eurekaspringsinn.com/ Wishing you a great PCD experience...we did that after our ED of our former '14 F31 Sportwagon... You WILL enjoy your delivery experience!

Thanks all. Car is scheduled to be finished this Friday (Jan 29). PCD won't commit to a date until the car is on a boat with an arrival date. End of March would be awesome but really the longer the delay the higher the chance of not having COVID restrictions get in the way of a good trip home.

Thanks to jzeiler4 for the route recommendations. Picked mine up on Monday. Took some accidental detours getting to the Tail of the Dragon but those roads were awesome. I never figured out how to properly plot the map I built on Google Maps into my car so my actual route between Traveler's Rest and Franklin is a mystery.
I didn't make it to the Tail until 9 pm so I had the road to myself but it was too dark to see anything but the road. The closest comparison I could think of was driving up to Pikes Peak in Colorado except 2x as fast. From the Dragon I made my way to Huntsville (Space Museum) and then Memphis & on to Rock Springs. I finished with a drive up AR 7 between Rock Springs and Eureka Springs following the https://www.motorcycleroads.com/moto...eureka-springs website. It did not disappoint, however DO NOT STOP IN EUREKA SPRINGS. EVERYTHING CLOSES AT 9 PM AND THE BAVARIAN INN RESTAURANT IS CLOSED. I stayed in the BI Hotel and it was straight out of the late 70s/early 80s. With the restaurant closed it was a waste of money and time and I should have either stopped in one of the earlier towns or kept on to towards Bentonville. |

The only things you missed after dark was one scenic overlook over the Calderwood Dam, a ton of crazy crotch rockets and a few Tennessee Sheriffs. Glad you enjoyed it. I was up there last week on my bike but going back a week from Friday in the M240.
