LSD for 230?

Anyone add LSD to a 230i?

Thinking about buying a 230i manual and wondering about the MPP of one, not sure if the cost is worth it when it starts getting into M2 territory. Long story short, thinking a 230 is really all the car most of us need blah blah blah...

Building a custom unit (through diffs-online or similar) is probably the best bet. Im going to get a Wavetrac based unit installed once my factory warranty is up.

And yes, I agree with you 100% that the B48 is more than enough. Address the car’s main defiencies - more camber, 245mm tires up front and lighter wheels, an LSD, a muffler delete for better noise, and someday a flash tune once the ECU encryption is broken - and a 230i will be perfect.

I have a 228i and ordered a Quaife LSD. I'm having trouble finding a shop capable of installing it in my country though, because the open diff in our cars has a welded crown wheel that has to be machined out for the conversion.

The MP one at least is just a simple swap, something worth considering also.

Quaife however is a install and forget, doesn't require maintenance and should last for ever.

Hey I'm in the same boat as you are, I'm also from RO/BU and I have a 230i for which I bought a Quaife LSD. Where did you install it?

As an update, IPOS Motorsport now offers a retrofit kit that allows the M-Performance unit to be fitted with m235i/240i axles.

Wavetrac is similar, with the additional benefit of certain technology that allows for power delivery to the wheel with traction when one wheel is off the ground. It's hard to explain, do your own research if you're curious. The crown wheel issue can be a nightmare if you don't have anywhere to go, but having a full diff commissioned and built for you can work around this issue. My Wavetrac came from Diffsonline as a full pumpkin, though unfortunately prices have gone up significantly through the pandemic. My change to a 3.46 ratio from the standard 3.08 certainly didn't help, but I figured I may as well change the ratio now if it's so hard to do it in the future anyways.
