Just bought a 2016 M235i With a Tune

Hey everyone! New to the forums. Love the car already, its got 74k miles and I have had it for a few days now.

And I'm trying to figure out which tune it has? What would be the best way to go about doing that? Definitely has burbles, but pulls really good too.

I got it from a dealer, salesman states the previous owner did notate it has a tune.

Thanks for any help in advance, I've lurked the forums for eons- now I have a reason to join, haha.

Im assuming you mean flash tune.

Email your VIN to PTF and MHD, they might be able to check their database if its their tune

So apparently they aren't a liberty to disclose customer information even if I currently own the car...of course.

Did both companies give you that response?
Thats interesting. I would think if you provided registration or something they could at least verify if that VIN was in their system.

I know on my 235 with BM3 when I press and hold the 'resume' button on the steering wheel for about 3 seconds, the tachometer will shoot to either 1,2 or 3k rpms to indicating the map you are on, and you can cycle between them with the up and down button. (the different maps being 91 93 et)

That could be a quick check, but if it doesn't work thats not definitive either way unfortunately.

That will only work on newer Multimap customrom tunes

Lookup JB4 steering wheel controls, and Bootmod 3 and MHD steering wheel controls as well. If you can get any of those to activate that would tell you which one you have. If not, it may be a Dinan tune (which I know nothing about) but I doubt it since it has more aggressive burbles.

You're really just looking for a JB4 or a flash tune (MHD or BM3). Maybe, possibly some other piggyback but those you can physically find around the DME area of the car (rear of the throttle body area).

Funny thing, only BM3 gave me that response, which leads me to believe it has a BM3 rom. Because MHD simply said "NO, this vin is not in our system."

Thanks, these were the tips I was looking for as well! Will report back with what I find.

if it is a JB4, im assuming he would have known by now as you can easily see the connections to the sensors, and the tuner is physically there

If he is asking, it must be a flash tune.
