Thanks for posting.
To open the hatch using your foot you need to use a kick motion in and out and not a side to side swipe. There are 2 parallel sensors running the length of the bumper that your foot needs to to pass across. |

I've found the auto hatch opening to work both when the car is locked and when it is not - and this is on both my Active Tourer and my wife's Gran Tourer. It takes a while to get the hang of what the car expects - and also you must have the car key in your pocket for it to work.
