M240I Launch Control
Has anyone mastered launch control yet? I have done it a few times and only once have i been able to get a perfect launch!
Is there a certian amount of time you should hold before letting loose? All but once, the RPM's max out at 2000-2500 and then once I drop the brake, there seems to be a delay on the take off. As mentioned above, I have had one perfect lauch but im not sure what i did different.?.?.?

Are you doing it in a manual or an auto? Sport + mode, DTC on, wheel straight, HARD on the brake, and full throttle. You should see the checkered flags pop up in the center cluster indicating launch mode is active.

It is with an auto. Yeah I got all that but once the flag pops up and the rpms are at 2000/2500 and I release the brake, the car has like a 1 second delay before it launches

I've tried launch control a couple of times in my M235i - it's been a while but I don't remember any delay. As soon as you release the brake the car should sling shot forward. I'm xDrive btw.

I know it can, and when it does hold the hell on lol. I just wish it would sling shot every time.

I get routinly better launches with more control without using launch control. just give right to the clutch point and floor it.
launch control either is semi-ok or cuts the power. never as good as a pure launch. |

I tried this today in my 230i. Sport+ on, shifter moved to left, Pressed brake, put gas pedal to floor, "launch control activated" in display. Wheels started turning, tires squealing. Let off brake and did a long smoking burnout. Launch control did nothing.

That’s weird because it’s not supposed to allow you to smoke the tires sitting still. It’s supposed to just hold revs at 3k until you release the brakes. Works every time in my m240i. Wish it’d let me do a burn out >.<

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5W9aCPRf_Q But doesn't seem to me that it's "launch control" as much as limiting engine revs so you don't fry the clutch. I've always thought of launch control as a thing for automatics to simulate good old fashioned "mash right foot down, lift left foot up". Until I get something wider than 225 all seasons on my new M240, any attempt at "launch control" is just an exercise in creating a cloud of smoke and shaving a few mm off the tread. Yes, I did have to do it once. But I mean come on now. |

Holding the revs at 3500 will yield better results when releasing the clutch/brake than it would letting the engine rev to say 5500 where it will cause more wheel spin. Excess wheel spin will cause the DSC to cut power then which will in turn slow a launch attempt. That’s why it rev limits. Saving the clutch is mearly a byproduct of the process.

All I know is I turned all the nannies off and floored it from a stop today and it still didn’t smoke the tires. Darn xDrive works great even without DSC and traction control on (sport+, M/S, hold traction button to turn off DSC) |
