Optimal oil for 228i

Changing the oil soon in my 2015 228i and wondering if anyone in here has any preferences for oil brands or weights they use in theirs.

I’m thinking castrol edge 0w-30 but I’ve seen other people saying they use 5w-30 and 0w-30 and other people saying that Mobil 1 is no longer bmw certified.

Have used Liqui Moly 5W30 Special Tec LL for last 40k mi with 7.5k mi oil change intervals. Happy so far and meets BMW LL01 - approved for N20 engine.

0w30 is only needed if the temperature goes below -25 celsius. thus 5w30 has more viscosity and generally protects better unless it is very cold. I am using it in my B48 which I assume is the same engine as yours. LL-04 is listed as acceptable according to ISTA

I'm using a local brand but if I was in the states I'd get Ravenol if it isn't too much more expensive. Liqui Moly is good too there is an LL-04 spec oil from them too, among many others

Oh you're in Scotland, I'd hope it being a German brand Ravenol would be readily available
