400 At Wheels
WOW! 400 WHP is a lot.
I would simply like to see about 350-360ish at the wheels and maintain that smooth progressive OEM power. Actually, my plan is to only run : BM3 Stage 0+ VRSF CP VRSF 5" HD I/C BMC Panel Filter. Think that will get me to 350 at wheel? |

Personally, I think it's silly though. If you want 400whp+, get a used M2C/M3/M4. The S55 is designed for that level of power and has all the necessary fueling and cooling capacity needed. 380-400whp/420-450wtq in a 3,500lb M235 would outrun most other more standard naturally aspirated sport coupes (Mustang GT, Camaro SS, Charger/Challenger). The uninformed tend to look at just the peak numbers. They don't understand that power under the curve is the true factor in dictating acceleration. A FBO EWG N55 has a very wide and thick powerband compared to something like a late model Mustang 5.0. The average power across the powerband is impressive. It's why a 330whp/360wtq N55 M2 is capable of 12.5-12.7@110-112mph in stock form.

I also wouldn't mind a "tuned" M2 Stage 0+ map adding more boost at the high end, let's say after 4000rpm. Anybody seen such a map? It would basically add what stage 2 does but only at high rpm. Can you even do that - safely? Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Building my own setups the rest of my life once I learn ignition timing, air fuel and boost tables to do it...

I feel like pushing heavy boost at the highest RPMs should be fine for how little time ( like seconds or minutes per year) the car spends at the very top of the rev range...guess this could be subjective as to what is "dangerous" or "risky". I actually really like the Stage 0+ map and didn't see a big difference adding a downpipe, IC and Stage 2. I opened the map editor earlier thinking I was ready to start tuning but there are so many tables for the same concept, IE boost, timing, lambda etc. I thought it was just like "the boost table" and "the ignition timing table" and the "air fuel table" etc. not a family of interconnected and related sub tables.

I wonder though if there are other things that can be tuned separate from torque curves. I know this from motorcycle tuning where environmental regulations make it hard for manufacturers to create smooth on and off throttle response for example. Tuning helps a lot with things other than power. Is driveability and throttle response worth getting a tune for? Or is this already baked into all BM3 off the shelf maps? Just wondering...

They may free up some power, but most people report the benefits I listed above, and they should provide extra headroom for a custom tune.
