That won't produce the same thing... that will give you the code for the year x07 and the other the code for x06

You asked if you could reuse the same DE.fsc... that's what I meant...
If you read the DE.fsc again from the car that will generate the same DE.fsc
That's what i meant with "running" meaning reading the DE.fsc again...

the DE.fsc from your car never changes

ah ok, i thought you meant it would produce the same code which is why i was confused. thanks for the confirmation. i wasn't sure if the DE.fsc would have changed after updating to 2015-1 maps which is why i asked.

you can get it from E-sys if you have the cable and then just generate the code... it's in the first post

if you can read the DE.fsc with e-sys i can generate the code for you

Thanks, I've actually got the generator part figured out, now just waiting for my cable to arrive so I can pull the code from E-Sys. Should arrive here from China by mid-June. It's going to be a long wait.

I attempted the update to 2015-2 three times over the last day but never got past the initial OK when the car recognized there was updated navigation data in the usb.

I just assumed it was updating silently in the background because I never saw any feedback at all from the car.. Don't make that assumption, Nothing is happening...

To continue:
I went and bought a good quality 32Gb usb stick and copied the data onto it.
Now I see the prompt for update and after saying ok, I am presented with the enter code screen. I entered the FSC code that I generated and now it is actually showing me progress on the update.

Lesson? Use good equipment, even if its only a USB stick!

Because they don't ship to Canada or shipping to Canada is too expensive.

I spent CAD$20 for 2 cables shipped here from China.

What exactly is the file layout of the USB drive supposed to look like for my M235i? I can't seem to get my car to recognize that I have inserted a drive. I have verified that it is FAT32 formatted. I'm going to try another drive (the one I was trying is a newer Corsair USB 3 though so it should be fine). Just trying to eliminate other possibilities.

maybe this would help

"Notes:
======

1. Some USB drives come with a hidden partition at the front of the drive. Make
sure to go into Disk Management (for Windows) or Disk Utility (OSX) and delete all partitions.
Then recreate a single partition formatted FAT32 (Windows) or FAT (OSX, it's FAT32 by default).

2. For Mac users, OSX places a series of hidden files on the USB stick which may cause the NBT not to properly read the data, if you have this problem
use a utility like Blue Harvest to remove all the hidden files/folders from the USB stick. If you have trouble with this, let me know and I can assist.

Yeah, I have made quite certain the format is FAT32, and that there are no ancillary folders. Still no luck.

I've tried two ways. Once where the NAVD_000014B8_255_002_162 folder was at the root of the drive, and once where the contents (1,2,3,4 folders, config.nfm,NBT_NANT_111142.3.113.pkg,NBT_NANT_1111 42.3.113.pkg.sig) were at the root.

I'm going to try another drive next, I just figured I'd ask the question while the files extract/copy.

Cool, this is how I interpreted it. Guess I need a different drive.

Thanks for the help!

Good news is the HP stick worked. Bad news is the code entry screen pops up so I need a FSC activation code. Good news is I have stuff to do that myself. Bad news is I haven't done any coding before. I easily got past the first few steps:

Quote:
I had an ENET cable so I chose to try the E-SYS Route. You need a working version of E-SYS, connect to your car as normal, and goto FSC Extended.

Enter Diagostic Address 0x63
Click Identify
The Base variant should show "HU_NBT"
Enter Application ID 0xDE (for NBT)
Enter Upgrade Index 0x1
The last few are puzzling:

Quote:
Move Store FSC from the left to the right ->
Click Read
Click Save and store the file as DE.fsc
"Move Store FSC from the left to the right" in particular doesn't mean anything to me. I don't see anything on the screen that makes sense for that.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious but I'm really not seeing it.

Per the instructions you need to go into FSC Extended mode.

You are not in FSC extended, you are in FSC which is in comfort section.

Goto Expert tab first, then FSC extended.

Beware you may need a token/crack to enable expert mode

Yeah, this was exactly what I missed. Thanks! Should be good from here. Next adventure will be coding enhanced Bluetooth/USB!
