With far too many other things going on right now, I finally set the appointment for the install next Monday! Looking forward to the first drive!

Thx so much again, changed the car IMO.

More than like...wife ripped around in a bit this weekend, and she was floored. BMW shop was impressed too, and he builds lots of track/race BMW's.

OH YEAH!

This is the way it should have been all along! This feels great! Major gratitude and appreciation to K8_M235i and to Rogue for developing and sharing this excellent work!

Took the shop about 2.5 hours. No issues. They liked it too! Paid $310.

Now, I'm not sure if my favorite mod is the M2 LCAs or this SSK.

I am so pleased with this upgrade in all ways that I called Rogue this morning simply to say thanks and offer praise for such excellent work! He reminded me that, as the only 228i in the group buy, this is now the only 228i (or 230i for that matter) in the world with this mod!

Don't forget to include the word 'rare' when you eventually sell the car.

Went romping through some country roads last night, silly the difference. Worth every penny.

Add in the powerflex upper bushings, car drives way better.

SSK is installed, loving it so far!

Biggest differences to me are the reduced weight transfer underneath, I can shift mid turn or during heavy braking and I can feel the shifter suck right into its position, whereas before I’d have to “wait” until it felt right. It feels right, all the time now! Next to that the obviously shorter throw, wow, getting into 2nd going up or down has completely changed. This is the gear most of us struggle with the most when tracking, the synchros are soft and if not shifted perfectly it’ll definitely let you know. Install was 3 hours, watched it happen in front of my eyes and he was non stop, just a first for him so he had to learn as he went.

I changed my trans gear oil out to Redline D4 ATF and feel between these two changes that it’s finally shifting as it always should have. It’s crispy/precise, smooth and consistent. Love it, thanks again Liam!

Awesome Dylan. You'll love it on track!

Dylan brought up another good point about trans fluid. I've been running redline d4 atf for about a year and a half. This fluid is loved by e46 m3 guys because it is much easier on synchros, especially while the fluid is cold.

If anyone else drives their f22 during the winter and hates the way their shifts feel while it's very cold out, this is due to the oem fluid. D4 completely solved this for me.

D4 atf is a great choice for pretty much every scenario.

Huge difference in 2nd, esp in corners imo.

I got the Redline DCTF ATF fluid, mostly street, lil track. Haven't put in yet, curious if its changes much.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I ran it in my E36 race car and it worked well there, although that was only in warm weather.

I don't ask much of the car on the street, and I run it in the winter only to warm the fluids up to operating temperatures, so I haven't noticed the stiff-shifting-when-cold effect. I'll bet that I'd notice it if I did a 3-2 at high revs before the trans was fully warmed-up, though.

I have a question for you regarding Dylan86's comment that his installation took three hours. I was going to have my dealer do it, but at $160 X 3 I'm rethinking that plan. (That said, the cost for my installed front H&R sway bar was $839 , so I don't know what I'm kicking about for something that's going to make much more difference in my daily driving enjoyment for the rest of the time I own the car.)

Can you give me an idea of how long you think this "should" take, and why, and how much a mechanic needs to be BMW-knowledgeable to do it in that time?

I haven't really been sure that the dealer is where I wanted to have this done, but at present they're more tuned-up for virus mitigation than are the independents. Just looking for your perspective and thoughts. Thanks...again.

Just putting in my 2 cents. My shop charged me for 2 hours, I watched the complete install (owner is a BMW guy)- went really smoothly. I think any competent shop will be in the 2-3 hour window.

When I installed my second one it took me about 2 hours not including getting the car up in the air on stands.

I think I could do one in 1.5 hours if I were working with a lift. As far as car knowledge goes, any shop that has done a bmw clutch or transmission replacement should be fine. They would have to do all, but 1 step for the shifter while removing the trans. Rogues instructions explain how to remove the tricky clips (which have been the same since e36s).

Do you not have any good euro indy shops near you?

I wish you were closer, I would've thrown it in for you.

My shop (guy helps at BimmerWorld, very knowledgeable) took 3 hours BUT he also cut out and installed my new knob etc, and had issue with the last numb skulls who tightened pipe so bad he broke 2 sockets getting off. I'd say start to finish 2.5 is solid.

Any thoughts on Redline DCTF for tranny ? 2 different BMW shops (and Redline) said the dual clutch was way to go...much different than the ATF4 ? I'm mostly street with occ. light track. thx

No, I do; it's just that I don't turn wrenches, and so I see things like this as a black box. That's where the questions are coming from.

(It also explains why I never went club racing. Having watched a friend/driver discovering he needed an alternator change at last call to line-up clued me in to the fact that I'd need a team with me to make a go of it. Not my cup of tea. IIRC, he still won his class (MT3); he got the fresh alternator on in no time flat, that's for sure.)

Thank you very much.

I'd probably have taken it to Jake just to check in with him and see how he's doing. Heck, I might just do that, anyway. I have got to get out of this house – I've been inside for months now, except for outdoor exercise. lol
