How do I make one of these- M235 Race Car

This is basically what I want my M235i to be- what all have they done and how hard was it to do?

https://www.facebook.com/23693777975...bstory_index=0

It looks like weight reduction and a roll cage, good rims and tires, suspension?

If I were you I'd ask them directly on Facebook. But then again they might not be responsive.

Plus the $15K body kit (installed & painted to match). Plus the aero you can see in the photo, brakes and brake ducts, chairs, harnesses, an LSD, and a fire suppression system and battery cut-out. Probably a data acquisition system, too, if you wanted one. With $75K you might get it all done to your satisfaction if a shop performed the work. Less if you do it all yourself.

There's nothing hard about any of it; you just have to locate a qualified shop and pull out the plastic. Ask me how I know.

See here for another member's example costing a fraction of what you'd spend to build one from scratch: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1607481.

Unless you claim you got money to spend then they might response.

BMW made a number of factory M235R race-only cars...you might try looking for a used one.

Or just buy a used N55 M2 as the M235R was built prior to the availability of that car. The M2 is better in every way. Electronic M-spec LSD, M3/M4 suspension and subframes, improved oil system for high Gs, more power, wider fenders to fit wider tires, better brakes, no moonroof in most M2s, passive suspension which means coilovers are a breeze, etc.

Your xdrive severely limits you in terms of suspension plus all the added weight of the xdrive and moonroof.

Dont I know it!

Now I know why I got the Xdrive for so cheap and all the RWD were much higher.

Is there a car cheaper/lighter to build from than the M235/2 platform?

Can you explain what a coil-over is? I always hear talk about them but don't understand at all.

The motor and the tranny just clicks instantly in my head but the suspension just does not...

The only downside to those is they're not street-legal and have no VIN's so plating them is not possible.. otherwise this IS the way to go!

xDrive kills the vision on this for sure, and agree that if talking about the OP's current car, the M2 would be better to start with right from the hop.

Can't compare the F87 to an iR, though.. one is street legal and one is a race purpose built off-road only car. The iR has an $8k monoball rear end along with a mechanical LSD (better for racing than active) and full body rear suspension vs separated spring/shock like the F22/F8x's. The rear end alone on the iR is about $15k USD including the rear 3-way KW suspension, but not including the MP LSD.

Long and short, you can make the x-drive pretty capable, but would scrap the plan to go much further than a "clubsport" type of build, which would still be $10-15k to have the car in a track-capable outfit.

Obviously - but the OP stated that he wanted to know how to build a race car. If he's looking for street and track performance, the F87 is the best choice, particularly the Competition model with the S55 engine.

Yes. The E46 and E36 platforms are much cheaper to build from. A bonus is that when running these platforms with S54/S50 motors you get a noticeably lighter and often faster road course car than you would with an F22.
