Has anyone gotten connected apps to work?
Took delivery on Monday and there is no option to connect in iDrive. I have the tech package. Called BMW Genius and there is no eta for fix. I wonder if they care and are really working on it.

The BMW Remote app on my iPhone 4 works just fine. Tested it two days ago.

It does work, it's just a bit of a dance. If using Spotify, for example, both the Spotify app and the BMW ConnectedDrive app must be open on your phone and the phone cannot be "asleep" when activating the process. I have finally learned this through hard-won experience. Certain iPhone functions that should work with iDrive are still not properly optimized. It's a bit of a work in progress and the BMW "geniuses" are often as baffled as we are.

Yeah agreed. 3 weeks in and this is proving to be a frustrating 'option', I am not getting the utility out of it expected. Apart from one Live Traffic update I have had none since, several weeks later. Bit of a pita having to, as you say, connect via cable, 'wake' phone up. Too bad if cant be seamless b-tooth. And the 'geniuses' have less clue than me.

I was finally able to track down someone that could explain what is happening. There is a know issue that is affecting a large number of 2016 vehicles and mine is one of them. The issue is expected to be resolved over the air but there is no ETA.

Just FYI it does take a few day for everything to be activated and kick in. I took delivery last Friday and not everything was activated and available for use until Tuesday. My understanding is that after you sign off on Connected Services agreement, the dealership faxes it off to BMW HQ where it must be entered into the system and activated.
The one that took the longest for me to get going was the BMW remote app. I didn’t know that A) You need to use your SOS button to fully activate connected services before it will work and B) the password is not the same as your My BMW account, but rather a separate code word assigned by the dealership. Dealership forgot to give me the code word. |

It's apparently decided by the dealership (at least in Canada). The VIN would be a good choice since it would at least be unique to each customer. My dealership apparently went the route of having a generic password for all their vehicles. I guess it's not a huge issue since you need to activate it through your car, but still.

My local dealer does your vehicle. For example: M235i, X4, 335i etc etc. But any given car could have almost any password. |

Wait until your client advisor does your ESN (what links BMW SOS, Connected Drive etc). Sometimes they do it at the end of the week, sometimes after delivery, sometimes at the end of the month. Call and ask them what your password is tomorrow, and if he/she didn't set it up yet, then you have a temporary explanation as to why you're having issues.

Works on my Android, which is on wifi only (no cell svc). However, it gets unable to connect to server errors a ton when trying to send climate updates etc to my car. There is clearly something wrong with their system that makes it glitch.

Related issue for me as well, 2015 model though. I don't see any apps under the ConnectedDrive menu. Are you all saying if I've never asked the dealer to set anything up that's probably what needs to happen?

I can say with relative certainty that both of your TCUs will need to be replaced.
I had this done on my 2015 and it resolved the issue you are describing (no connecteddrive apps and real time traffic not working). The dealership had seen a few other vehicles with the same issue and that is the resolution. There was another member on here I was talking to about the same issue. |

Actually not true, at least for me. My bluetooth and everything else worked perfectly fine. Only no connecteddrive apps and RTTI. The option to "update BMW assist" was greyed out as well.
See my two threads about it: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1146480 http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1165720 Either way, let us know how it works out! |
