New Guy
Today I picked up this 2015 in pristine condition; vin decoder shows sportline/msport suspension; for what that's worth
My commute is about 170 miles per day and I think i found in this car a perfect commuter. Solid power, fun to drive and mpg |

For sure - before the new car i alternated between my tacoma (14-15mpg), my rx8 (17mpg) and one day a week my girlfriend’s cooperS (35ish mpg). The rx8 is done, gonna sell it - which will be difficult as i bought it new in 2004. So more than a commuter i wanted a fun car that with tires and brake pads, i could enjoy a couple track days per year.

Thank you! I find it not as completely stirring as my Mazda, yet it's likely a better-performer in every measurable category. It's completely comfortable. Has almost perfect power for commuting and negotiating traffic. And with my cruise set at 82 this morning, the car reported almost 32mpg. It's the best compromise of all the things I wanted in a car.
Will fix the audio as the HK stuff is not very impressive. Will likely go square on my next set of wheels and tires - that said, I am very happy about the lack of understeer I'm feeling with the skinnies up front. |

I'm guessing the difference in torque between the RX-8 and the 228i must make up for some of the lack of relative stirring-ness. I've ridden as a passenger on the track in an RX-8 and thought it's modest torque was its only limitation. They're great sports cars, helped by being quite a bit lighter than our cars are. Without using cruise control, I got 28.8 mpg from my 240i while running 75-85 mph last weekend. That was over 298 miles and included some work zones and some city driving at the beginning and end of the leg. That was after installing 255s up front, adding at least a little drag compared to the stock 225s. This was consistent with mileage I've seen in the past; more typically, I get your 32 mpg at a steady 68-72 mph with little or no heavy throttle application. I think our cars are one of the few Swiss Army Knives of contemporary cars. They offer quite a bit of flexibility at an acceptable price point and without pushing two or more tons in curb weight. If I could make one change, I'd like my car to be a four-door hatchback instead of the coupe that it is. Can't have everything, though, can we! Are you going to Hallett to run on the track?

Thanks!
The rx8 was incredible at the track; super easy to drive fast. With just brake pads and tires the car was super-fun. When I added coilovers it was more capable than I was. Just being able to slide the car at will...no car i've driven was more communicative and controllable. The bimmer will get tires and brake pads and i'll start exploring the tracks within driving distance. In various cars i've ran ThunderHill, Bremerton, Pacific Raceways, and Nordschlife - with a couple autox thrown in. |
