Do I need a spacer for 255 tires 18x9.5 et45 wheel
Just went to pep boys and they said they had to use my 15 mm spacer tht was on my old tires to make the 255 mpss tire fit with the vmr v710 18x9.5 et 45
I'm pretty sure this is bullshit and they don't know wht they're doing because there is someone on here running the same setup with 19s and no spacers or any modifications Any thought?????? Or is this bullshit? |

No you do not need a spacer. In fact I poke some with my 255s on VMR 18x9.5 ET 45 in rear. Are spacers currently installed with that setup? Are you poking out a lot?
My winter setup Michelin PA4 with those specs and no spacer, OEM suspension: Last edited by Transfer; 03-30-2018 at 12:21 AM.. |

Are you 100% sure I can take the spacers off and the car will be fine with the 18x9.5 et45 on a 255 tire |

Have you had any problems whatsoever ever without a spacer and that setup?

Use whichever bolts that have a minimum of 6 full turns of engagement in the hub, but not exceeding approximately 11 full turns (will catch on the parking brake mechanism in the rear if screwed in too far). Check there is no interference between the bolt tips and anything in the hub area by ensuring the wheel rotates freely with no noise while it is lifted off the ground.

OEM bolts on VMR wheels if no spacers. If you use the long bolts you'll jack up your wheel hub and wheels won't tighten down.

Taking a BMW to Pep Boys was a huge mistake. That said, PSS do run wide. I know my 18 x 9.5 et45, with 5mm spacers were fairly close to the strut cover with the stock 245 PSS. I just put 255 PSS on and man, it would be close without the spacer.

I have the exact same size offset and tire width on my rears with dinan springs and definitely does not need spacers at all

You do NOT need a spacer on VMR wheels in the rear with an offset of et45. Even on 19s with et45 it will fit fine with MPSS 255/30/19.
There is some amount of poke in the rear with this setup already, a 15mm spacer will push your wheels out too far. If these are not fitting on your rear as is, something else might be wrong. Look at the wheels and tire section for the amount of people running 18 and 19 inch rear wheels that are 9.5et45, it is A LOT of us, and this setup should not require spacers.

My guess is they are just unfamiliar with the offsets? Maybe they just don't know how to add? I think our stock offset is something like in the 50s? et58 maybe? Could they have added it wrong thinking its positive offset and adding a 12mm spacer would bring it closer to OEM? edit: just to clarify on top of that, our cars have negative offset. So that et45 is -45. By adding a 12mm spacer, it changes the offset to et33. Which is WAY out of what it should be in the rear. At et45 we are pushing poke, for 9-9.5 inch rear wheel the 51-48 range is a bit better, but 45 still fits rather nicely, albeit with a couple of mm of poke. At et33 with 9.5 inch wheels, you are going to look like a cholo truck rolling around.

But yeah I would take it to some place that has dealt with our cars more often. Dealer charges an arm and a leg, but at least they know the cars better. If you can find a good alignment shop, it will save you some money, but problem is a lot of shops will just wing it when they are unsure.

Oh man trust me I am familiar with that. I happen to have lucked out that two guys that are friends of mine both run shops. And as a result have a lot of contacts throughout San Diego. It makes life a lot easier, but honestly best way is word of mouth recommendations from other enthusiasts etc. in your area.

i had AG M359 wheels in 18x9.5 et45 in the rear and it poked way too much. even without spacers it looked stupid, i cant image how bad it would look with spacers. |
