Was just lightly rear ended
Sadly after 3 weeks of ownership someone decided to rear end me. It was a pretty light tap, but there is some minor visible damage where the front plate screws hit and scuffing elsewhere. Anyone have an idea of how much this would cost to fix? Luckily he had insurance.

A bumper sand and respray can usually be done for a few hundred dollars as long as you don't have a color like Mineral White which is a pain in the ass to match.

Auto-repair costs have a fair amount of regional variation. Where I live (San Francisco), things are fairly expensive. Resurfacing/repainting a rear bumper seems to run around $600-$1,000 for a good-quality job.

A buddy of mine backed into my front bumper (pretty big paint chips) once in my 135i which was Alpine White. Found a highly rated shop to fix it for $250, they did an amazing job also.

A certified BMW body shop will have no problem matching MW. A good portion of my car was painted after being rear ended and you would never know it and I have MW. They computer match the paint.

Most, although not all, dealers subcontract the work to an indy shop with whom they have established a relationship. Ask your dealer who/where the work would be done if they did it. Go check the place out and see what other kinds of cars they are working on and ask for them to show you the paint booth. If they don't have one....run!

My point has to do more with the fact that a 3 stage color requires more labor and processing time which drives up cost compared to something like alpine white.

I've had this done numerous times at a local very competent body shop. Typically $350-$500 depending on the amount of body work required to the bumper.

I had this work done on my mineral white 235 last March. I'm in Baltimore.
Had a BMW (Porsche/Maserati) dealership dedicated body shop do the work. Do you have parking sensors? May not be an issue but for those getting a new bumper the replacement doesn't come with parking sensor holes pre-cut. Body shop does the holes. I didn't want to leave my car and they said they have a computer that they use to help match color. I have my invoice at home but I do think repair and paint was in the 6-8 hundred dollar range. Also the shop warned that plastic bumper color can vary slightly from painted metal. When I look at new 235's I sometimes detect a slight color variance between plastic and metail painted surfaces. A lady backed into the back bumper of my parked 1er several years ago and while there was no visible damage (scuffs or scrapes) there was an ever so small bulge where she tapped me - which seemed a bit wierd to me as one would have expected to see a small dent if anything. I took it to the dealer and they told me the rebar had been damaged and had to be replaced or repaired as it was a safety issue and the repair ended up costing $800.
