Ok, I am probably in minority. I live in a state without front plates, but I've kept my german ED plates in front. Don't think it ruins the look (every BMW at the birthplace has them after all). In fact I've got quite a few compliments about "cool german plates". ;-)

BTW, I am using sticky tape, so no holes. Why not use it in NY, instead of crappy tow hook solutions?

Are they hardasses about this in NY? I've run no front plates on my cars for over a decade in TX, and they're technically required here. Never ticketed.

It depends on the officer.

Parking enforcement is usually worse than LEO's - if you park in a small village that has it's own town parking they'll usually ticket you. My wife got 2 tickets that way when driving my car.

I got pulled over once specifically for no plate and nothing else. I was let off with a warning (I lied and said the car just got back from the repair shop and the mount was on order).

I leave it on now most of the time just because my wife drives the car frequently enough I don't want a headache from her. I still pull it off when I take the car to a car show or if I know she won't be driving it.

I trimmed the top and bottom of the plate and installed in the grill area with 4 zip ties, looks pretty good.

You can use tape. BMW used 3M double-sided foam tape for both front and rear plates when I did my ED. Something like the 3M exterior VHB may work better due to little to no residue if you want to remove it. On my old E46 I accidentally broke off one of the grills and used a small amount of VHB to hold it in place for another 50K miles. So yes it will hold.

Are you talking about the orange temporary plates? I saw a blue EU plate a few weeks back when driving on the road. Was wondering if the orange plates are a new thing for ED.

I have a Pedal Haus Tow Hook Mount for sale which will accomplish exactly what you're looking for. You can look in the "Member's Classifieds: Exterior" section for the for sale thread.
