So, email does work on with the Tech Pkg on an Android phone
I didn't think it did, until we paired my wife's phone with the car for a long road trip over the weekend. Saw the message icon on the display yesterday, pulled up the message page, and there were her emails.
Now I have to go look at how she has her phone set up. I don't use the standard email application and don't see my emails, so my guess is that she's using the standard email software that came with the phone and that's why it's transferring.

This is device dependent, not iDrive/BMW dependent. The phone needs to support MAP (Message Access Profile). Perhaps your wife's device is newer than yours?
In the Samsung Android world, S4's and up all support MAP (and Note 5), therefore emails (and texts) are sent to the iDrive screen. Dave

To add, I have a Galaxy S6 and my Text messages come in but not emails; I do NOT have the stock Mail app configured to any email address; I use the Gmail app instead. I assume that's why my emails aren't coming in...

I have a SG6 Edge and use the supplied samsung text message app and email app (tied to my company's Exchange server).

OK, got things to work on 2 of our 3 phones.
My S4 mini (the phone that lives in my pocket and that gets most of my calls) doesn't share emails with the car regardless of which email program I use. However, my wife's S4 and my Note 4 (which lives in my folder or on my dash when driving) does display email when using the default Android app. I needed to unpair / repair the Note 4 after setting up the email account for it to take effect. So, a decent result for what I want.

As long as you're using the default email client (not Gmail) I've found most of the Android phones I've used (Motorola, HTC, Samsung) have worked for emails as well messages.

Do you use the "Email" app or the Gmail app? I suspect it will work if you use the "Email" app on your S4.

Finally, texts and emails only work if I use the supplied/pre-installed Samsung apps for Messaging & Email. Hope that helps Dave

I do have enhanced Bluetooth in my x3 and 235 and texts/emails work nicely. my wife has a 328 with enhanced and her S5 does texts/emails.
maybe the enhanced is a requirement although I would be surprised.
