Just purchased a 2016 228i M Sport Package Manual clean low mileage. Not a DD. Looking into wheels and tires first.

Need to be able to fit upgraded brakes in the future. Car will be mostly weekender and some track time.

Will a set up like this work with only minor mods? Likely not a direct fit?

Wheels: EC-7, 18x8.5 ET45 Front, 18x9.5 ET58 Rear
Spacers: 5mm F&R
Tires: Michelin PS 4S, 235/40 Front, 265/35 Rear

I'm thinking about running the same setup once the next EC7/ARC8 group buy comes around. After viewing people's setups I think the specs you mentioned will be a direct fit on stock suspension. I've seen people clear the strut with 3mm front and rear, but I'm doing 5mm just to be safe.

This is exactly the setup I have, but with A/S 3+ tires instead of PS 4S.
It fits perfectly on stock suspension, no rubbing.
And, the EC-7s look great on the 2.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you have any concerns, and Tom jump in here when you get a chance as well, of the increased rolling diameter. Just above a percent increase. From a looks perspective and perhaps comfort, the increased sidewall looks great. The stock 18” seems short to me. The previous owner had replaced the stock run flats with same tire brand model.

I had no concerns with the increased diameter. It results in the speedometer reading closer to actual. ~1 mph over actual vs. ~2 mph over actual. That's about it.
The only concern I had was using the 5mm spacers, because I had never used spacers before. I thought there might not be enough hub length remaining for proper centering and there might be vibration or other functional issues.
Fortunately, those concerns turned out to be unfounded. There were no issues. Just be sure to thoroughly clean the hub & rotor surfaces before mounting the spacers, use the correct length extended wheel bolts and take your time properly tightening/torquing them.
I'm very happy with how this setup feels. And, the car looks great! No regrets.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that those widths and offsets are perfect, because they are not.
The ideal specs for me would be:
Front: 18x8 ET40, 235/40 or 245/35 (depending on strut/fender clearance), no spacer
Rear: 18x9 ET53, 265/35, no spacer
But, unfortunately APEX doesn't make the EC-7s in those sizes. So, 18x8.5 ET45 & 18x8.5 ET58, with 5mm spacers F&R, is the next best choice.

First of all congrats on the new 228! The setup you mentioned will be a great fit for your car! You've included the 5mm spacer which is excellent and generally a necessity. The one thing I might mention here is that if you are going with a larger big brake kit in the future, our ET35 EC-7s will give you a bit more spoke clearance because of the lower offset.

The downside with the ET35s is that they will require some additional negative camber in the front with the 235/40s in order to clear your front fenders. The ET45s will clear the 340mm Msport brakes with the 5mm spacer, so they should clear most kits, but we don't have any testing with aftermarket kits for this specific setup. If you have a brake kit in mind, you can send us a template from the manufacturer and we can confirm clearances.
If you are planning on installing aftermarket coilovers that limit clearance in the future, the ET35 wheels might be the better option as well.

As Peter has mentioned, the rolling diameter shouldn't cause any issues. We've have multiple customers run these tire sizes without any problems and the diameter differences are well within our tolerances for recommended setups.

Lastly, I know you are already looking at EC-7s, but for anyone on the fence between ARC-8s and EC-7s I would recommend the EC-7s if you are concerned about brake clearance as their barrel design is slightly more optimized.

This thread still on? I finally got to use the ARC-8R set I had lying around this weekend.

There was a nasty new ditch at the exit of T6 Thunderhill West that ate at least two cars' wheels and one's strut tower. I also hit it, but the shiny new forged wheel seems to have held up. Yay.

Yup, its definitely still on! Thanks for the photo and the insider info! Glad to hear the forged wheels held up to the new ditch. We've heard about that ditch becoming an issue just recently and have a large portion of our team heading up to Thunderhill for a trackday in the next day or two so we will keep an eye out for it!

How did the AR-1s treat you over the weekend?

They felt ... a bit more subtle than the RE71r I normally run -- still gave good feedback and were easy to catch -- but seemed to resist turning (even under the limit) a lot less.

Interesting. How do you think their wear over the weekend compares to the RE71Rs? I assume that the AR-1s would handle prolonged hot track sessions better than the RE71Rs which can get greasy after a few laps.

A little too early to talk about wear. Let me go through a few sets of them first...
They didn't seem to overheat, but I can usually get a 20 minute session from the 71rs too without a big drop in performance. So kinda unclear still.

Hi there, I am sure this has been answered before but I can’t seem to find it. — ARC-8 square setup for 228i question (Stock suspension)

I recently put the TR Motorsports 17x8 et40 wheels on my car for the track. 245/40/17. Fit is good, no rubbing.

Really want to put on a square set of ARC-8’s 18x8.5 as daily’s with a 245/35/18 w dws tires. On stock suspension (with the Brembo blue calipers), could this be done without rolling fenders?

Our 18" wheels will clear your brakes without any issues, but 245s can require negative camber on the F22 chassis. For this wider square setup, I generally recommend our 18x8.5 ET45 wheels with 5mm front spacers. This gives you the best chance of clearing on all 4 corners and the 245s should be a direct fit in the rear.

In the front, you may need to add some additional negative camber with the 245s. We've had some customers clear by a very thin margin with stock suspension and tire models that run narrow but we've also had customers require negative camber. I haven't heard feedback specifically about the DWS' yet though so I can't get more specific on will it or wont it fit without camber adjustment.

Right on. Did you try it with the 245’s before adding negative camber up front? Not planning on tracking this setup, using dedicated 17’s for that.

Has anyone ran 9.5 ET43 in rears? Everyone seems to run 9.5 ET58 for APEX wheels.

All the VMR guys seems to run 9.5 ET45 as a perfect fitment.

ET45, perfect? No.
I have ET58 - 5MM spacer (ET53), with 265/35 Michelin A/S3+ and I think that pokes a little.
You'd have to have a high poke tolerance for 9.5 ET45.
