Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have never purchased custom wheels before, so I've been racking my brain trying to figure out the best offsets. I do not plan to lower my car and do not want the wheels to "poke".

Looking at this thread, it seems like most people running 19" VMRs are using the following:
(F) 19x8.5 ET35 | 225/35/19
(R) 19x9.5 ET45 | 255/30/19

The staggered OEM wheels are the following:
(F) 18x7.5 ET45 | 225/40/18
(R) 18x8.0 ET52 | 245/35/18

For the OEM wheels to reach the offset of the above VMR setup, wouldn't it be the same as adding a 22mm or 23mm spacer in the front and a 26mm spacer in the rear? That seems like quite a lot when many on this board are using spacers betwen 10mm - 15mm.

Yeh that's about correct. But with the OEM wheels, I was running 15mm spacers front and back and to me, that brought the wheels right to the edge without "poking". was very flush. Right now I'm running VMR 703 18's with 8.5F/ 9.5R and the front is just about flush fit and the rear is a very very slight "poke" which I attribute to the wider rubber not the wheel (see my pics on the previous page). This is with no spacers. I have my 15mm spacers chilling in a box now.

Bottom line, if you want a flush OEM look I recommend 15mm all round

Are your current offsets ET35 fronts and ET45 rears?

Yes Sir. My set up is identical to the first car posted by VMR on page 1. EXCEPT I'm on Dinan springs not H & R.

This is accurate. They will be very flush with the fenders, but the poke would come down to the tire size. We generally recommend a 245 in the rear, however they are a bit harder to come by. Most of our 2 Series customers that are at stock height report no rubbing with the 255 on the rear, however, there may be the slightest bit of poke.

Depending on which wheel you are interested in, they may be available in more conservative offsets. For example, the VB3 is available in an ET40 for the front, however the rears would still be ET45.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

So if I were to go with ET40 in front and ET45 in rear, that's the same as putting 17mm spacers in front and 26mm spacers in rear?

A very important question for Brandon:

With an extreme setup (you know what I mean by that*), does the answer to the all-important question: "will it or will it not rub" depend also on a VMR model chosen? Or - if I'd like to follow one of the examples in this thread - I can safely do it with a different wheel model, as well? (In fact, any wheel model of the given specs)? Thanks,

Piotr

* my definition of "extreme" is:
- tires: definitely wider than OEM (meaning 235/35R19 front, 255/30R19 rear), as IMHO, all the 18->19" wheel conversion w/o wider tires is a futile exercise only serving aesthetic purposes - the M235i needs wider tires!!!)
- wheels: ET low enough to show at least some concavity, but high enough to avoid poking out (even if poking would not mean rubbing)
- all the above with 10-15 mm drop (like on the H&R springs)

The fitment of the wheels will not change between designs as long as all other variables are held constant, ie. offset, width, tire sizes, ride height etc. If another forum member is running the same fitment that you are looking for and claims to have no rubbing, it's safe to assume that the fitment is attainable for you as well. Again, all other variable would have to be held constant, and there are many of them.

Thanks Brandon.

One more question: do VMR have plans for the "Brushed" type of finish a la BC Forged wheels? I'm sure it would be welcome by buyers - with those ultra-low profile tires the wide rims are very susceptible to surface damage. I'm not talking about serious damage that involves bends, cracks etc., but stone chipping or even slight curb rushes. A "Brushed" finish can be repaired by simply sanding it slightly and perhaps spraying with clear coat - no need of entire wheel painting for most small "usage traces"...

Hi Brandon,

May I ask you a question on 18" setup? Yeah, I'd prefer 19" but didn't exclude re-using my OEM PSSs, and when they are worn replacing them with 235/35R18 front, 255/30R18 rear - therefore please tell me the specs of say the V810 that I could stretch my current OEM tires on, but would give no rubbing in the future when I replace the tires with 235 f, 255 r. Is the situation with 18" exactly the same as with the 19" - i.e. to make plug&play with wider tires, I'd need ET=45 front, 50 rear? Or is 18" fitment more forgiving, and I could go with ET=35 front, 45 rear and still be able to use 235 mm tire on front, 255mm on rear without rubbing? TIA

Piotr

That''s great; ut just a question: would 235/35R18 rather than 235/40R18 fit with ET=35 without any modification?

I would recommend using the fitment from the above post. The higher offset with the spacer will be your best bet if you want to use a 235 front tire in the future.

Good point, Brandon; however - rather than using/not using a spacer depending on which front tire I want (the current OEM 225/40R18 or - when it needs replacement - the 235/40R18), why not consider ET of 40 mm (without spacer)? If I'm not mistaken it should be OK for both 225/40 and 235/40 18" tires - or am I wrong? TIA

The issue there would be that we do not offer an ET40. Your best option would be to run ET45 with a 5mm spacer.

Fair enough, Brandon - but just in order to verify whether or not my thinking is correct, please assume you do have ET40 in your 18" line-up and answer my question (I hate the hassle of spacers);

Would an 8.5x18 ET40 wheels - without any spacers - be fine with both:

- my current 225/40R18, and after they are finished
- some new 235/40R18 tires?

Please treat answering my question as a Christmas gift for me .

Speaking of which - to all VMR crew, both in the US and here in EU, my sincere Christmas and New Year's Wishes of Health and Prosperity!

IF we were to offer an ET40, the 225/40/18 would definitely not cause any issues. I would assume that it would be ok with the 235 unless you were aggressively lowered.

Happy Holidays!

I just installed 19x8.5 et35 VMR v721 with a 235/30/19 and I'm getting rubbing whenever I go up a driveway or bump. They sit perfectly flush.

I am lowered on H&R springs though.

Dear Brandon,

Are you sure the information you gave me in the last couple of posts is accurate? Please don't take any offense - I realize it's Holiday, and all those fitment numbers may get one confused - but:

1. You say you don't have 8.5x18 wheels available with ET=40. Then how about the V703 (I'm basing on VMR EU pages, so here it is: http://www.vmrwheels.eu/wheels_bmw_a...3_vb3.html)???

So my question repeated- if I go with V703 and the following fitment:

F: 8.5x18" ET40, 225/40R18 tire I have now and 235/40R18 in the future
R: 9x5x18 ET45, 245/35 R18 tire I have now and 255/35R18 in the future

- will this work well for me, now and in the future with 10mm wider tires?

2. Another of your posts I don't quite get is #81, recommending (if I am getting you right) that I'd be best off going with your earlier generally recommended fitment:

F) 8.5 ET45 + 3 or 5mm spacer > 235/40/18
* Spacer required for appropriate suspensions clearance
or
(F) 8.5 ET35 (No spacer) > 225/40/18
* 235 tire with this spec may require modification depending on ride height, alignment/camber, and tire brand/model

(R) 9.5 ET45 or ET50 > 245/35/18 or 255/35/15

Again, the front is not a solution for me if I would like to get an 8.5x18 wheel, and use it for some 25k km with my current OEM PSS in 225/40R18 size but once worn out, replace the tire with a 235/40R18. It's obvious I'd like to put the 225/40R18 on the 8.5x18 ET 35 (no spacers required), and for 235/40R18 I couldn't reuse this wheel without fender roll-up - do you agree? (I'm dropped on H&R).

So- all in all - I still think the fitment as in my Point 1, above, looks like the optimum way to go. For the first period with 225/40R18 tires I have, I could even use 5mm spacers at the front...Please confirm whether you indeed make a mistake, or it's me who is still in error...
