Ceramic coating

So I just got a new set of wheels, apex ec 7 satin black, and was looking at getting a ceramic coating done or putting wax on them but I really don't know what to do. Would you guys recommend to get a ceramic coating? If so how long would it last and what brand should I go with? Or would a good wheel wax work?

With the heat from the brakes, most waxes will burn off pretty quickly. Sealants will last a little longer but i’d still go for a coating.

I applied CQuartz myself on my BBS CI-Rs when they arrived and it seemed to last about a year (March-November).

I’d highly recommend it, brake dust came off so easy with a pressure washer. Just avoid using any harsh wheel cleaners to prolong the coating (you shouldn’t need them anyway).

Ok, and what steps do I need to do to prepare for the coating? I have driven on the new wheels for a week (didn't think to coat them before I put them on), so there is just a little bit of brake dust on there right now.

Gtechniq makes a great wheel coating. Wash with a strip wash like Adams or chemical guys. Get some CarPro eraser (basically an IPA) and go over the wheels thoroughly. You want the coating to bond to the wheel and not to any dirt wax etc. then put the coating on with foam applicator. Really no more difficult than waxing. Avoid elements for a few hours. Good stuff

Ok and how much coating should I use on the wheel? All the videos I have seen never tell you how much to use. Does a little go a long way?

Real real thin. It’ll be hard to see but with satin black wheels you’ll have an easier time seeing it. 5-7 drops on foam applicator should do a quarter of face of wheel. Should flash meaning it gets a rainbow look then a chalky look. Wipe gently to get the carrier solvent off. Should still have more than half the bottle left if you’re doing faces of 4 wheels
