2 Questions - Dinan S2 and downpipe / BOV

Hello all,

I currently have the Dinan S1 package I got from the dealership when I bought the car brand new. My only mods are the Stage one tune, Dinan intake, and the Dinan Catback. I do plan on getting the fab speed muffler delete for some more sound. Two questions-

Can I just goto the dealer and ask them for a stage two tune, I am assuming that the dinantronics will have to be sent out.

Next question - do I need a tune if I plan on running a catted downpipe

And finally- I've read about blowoff valves screwing up motors. I found one from forge Motorsports in the UK and it sounds badass.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Depends on the dealer. May be easier faster if you have Dinan next door, not a authorized shop. But I thought it was just a software upgrade.

The cat dp depends on the maker. Most will give you a ce light. And you'll need a tune or jb to get rid of that

I'm surprised it only has stage 1 on it if it came from the dealership that way. With those mods it qualifies for stage 2 out of the gate. So yes, stage 2 upgrade is fine. If you go to a Dinan dealer (Thompson may be your closest dealer?) they can perform the software update in shop.

In regards to a DP--- they will ultimately set a CEL which DINANTRONICS will not correct for (emissions/legal reasons). You will still realize more power but it will not be tuned to take full advantage of it. Assuming you can live with a CEL though it will physically work just fine.

I just had my 2016 M235i x set up with a Dinan Stage 2 and CAI at Thompson. They are very knowledgable and very good people. I'm waiting on the Dinan Exhaust - it is on back order

But, if Thompson is the closest - they are a great Dinan shop.

Go stage 3 for the win...

You'll be giving the ecu tune and JB4 guys a good run.
Get a catted sport DP and your good to go.

right around 385- 390whp, 420-430 tq. with 2 gallons of e85.

Fabspeed catted downpipe has been really good for us in terms of not getting any CEL even without a JB4. It uses superior HJS cats which cost more but are higher quality

Any thoughts on the AFE catted downpipe.

Is there any way to remove the CEL if one comes up with the Dinan tune. I would like to keep the car as "Dinan" as possible for now, minus the exhaust

unless you want to clear it with an OBD reader every time you start the car, and the light will come back on in 10 mins.

Get a sport catted DP if you don't want lights.

Not all Catted downpipes are created equal.

If you want to go with a Catted downpipe, consider a higher quality option, they will last longer and be less likely to throw a CEL.

Fabspeed or Wagner.

AFE uses a magnaflow 200 Cell (Lower quality)

Fabspeed uses a Fabspeed HJS 200 Cell (much higher quality)

VRSF sells a DP fix but only with the purchase of their catless downpipe FWIW.
