to Exhaust or not to Exhaust......
MPE vs Dinan?? and what other options are out there?
MPE is about 1200 and Dinan is about 1500 bucks here in Denver. I cant decide based on youtube videos.... I heard the Dinan and its LOUD but I havent heard the MPE in person. on either one, does it go quiet when you are in Comfort? Thanks in advance and sorry for the 'basic questions' ;-) |

I have the Dinan exhaust. Ill give you a quick review.
Cold start ups are very loud, it sounds aggressive. If you leave for work early and don't want to wake up your family it may not be the best exhaust. Warm start ups are moderate. Its almost to quite when the engine is warm and idling normal. Drone is non existent. When cruising on the highway with the windows closed I don't hear the exhaust at all. When the windows are open there is a slight rumble. Full and partial throttle sounds amazing, I got a lot of complements that they can't believe a BMW sounds this good. If you are in comfort mode the car is very quite and livable. Sport mode completely changes the car and sounds mean as hell. Lots of pops and bangs out of the exhaust. |

A few things based on experience:
1) I had AWE, but unfortunately returned it due to some droning between 2.5k-3k RPM. If you can deal with that, its definitely an amazing sounding exhaust. 2) Dinan is probably going to net you similar results as the MPE in terms of sound. I like the sound of the Dinan, but it doesn't provide a different enough exhaust note to warrant the $500 premium over the MPE (which brings me to my next point) 3) The MPE can be had from Sun Motor Cars for $790 shipped, without tips. Reuse your stock tips, or add in a few hundred for the M-Performance ones, your choice. 4) My ultimate recommendation: Go with the Fabspeed Sport Cat Downpipe. I recently had this installed and it provided the following: - Very noticeable power increase, especially with regards to torque - Noticeable sound increase (more burbles, deeper note) - No CEL or bad smells that you get from a catless downpipe - With installation, I was around $1150 all in (got a good deal when Fabspeed was running a promo, but they should work with you on the price) My plan is to ultimately mate the MPE with my Fabspeed Sport Cat, but as of now the sound and power of just the DP is great. Good luck! |

Just have a local shop do a muffler delete, it'll do the same thing at a fraction of the cost. Can't vouch for any drone, but this is my plan once I find a shop/stop being lazy and actually call around.

I am not sure about the muffler delete - I have no idea how that sounds plus the drone supposedly goes up. I need to hear one first.
As far the Fabspeed SportCat downpipe, if I were to get a Dinan exhaust as well, which one should I get first? also does the Sportcat downpipe mess with the BMW warranty? Again, excuse my ignorance, trying to learn a lot of new stuff here! And Thank you for all your replies. |

I would never do muffler delete because if my awe had drone it that 2-3k RPM range, I can guarantee the delete will too. I'll stick to MPE so as not to go down that path again. |

I couldn't fathom spending $1,500-2,500 on an exhaust like some guys do on this site. |

There's a dude on here that had a vid of his mpe with sport cat. sounds really good, but it's in a parking garage. I'm immediately sceptical of any growl I hear when the video is taken in a parking garage.

I love the setup on my personal M235i. I have it equipped with Fabspeed's Sport Cat Downpipe (first mod) and also our Muffler Bypass Exhaust. Check out the link below to the setup I'm running

Also if you want to really help the sound get a cold air intake, I think it might have even done more for the sound vs the exhaust. With the stock intake you can't even hear that there is a turbo somewhere under the hood. With the BMS intake (I've had no issues now having run it for 2 years) it you can now hear the turbo spool up and sucking all that air in, plus when you let off the throttle you can hear either the wastegate or diverter valve making a whooshing noise as it bleeds off pressure. With the M Performance exhaust and BMS intake the car finally sounds more like I think it should have from the factory, aka it sounds great. |

Will a muffler delete sound the same as when you cut the stock exhaust and start the car before putting the MPE on ?
Is it even safe/ok to start the car with the muffler cut before you put the MPE on ? |

I have the Armytrix exhaust dual 2.5" exhaust runs from collector just downstream of the DP. My DP is an ER catless. Sounds amazing. No droning. I leave valve open 24/7 in comfort its quiet. In sport it lets the dogs bark..!
