So here's a question.... When a car runs rough/clunky becasue of a CEL
1. Is it bad for the car... I can't imagine it's good for it? 2. Is the car running poorly because of the intake itself or because the CEL is essentially telling the car something is wrong? I would imagine it has something to do with there is higher air flow which messes with the air to fuel ratio too much? If this is the case will a tune alter theses parameters? |

Here is a review by Mike (not me, a customer)
Got this Injen Short Ram Air in anodized black and wasn't disappointed. Packaging was very good and came with all components and instructions needed. Only issue I had was that one of the bolts that secures the ram tube to the metal enclosure is hard to reach and required me to disconnect the upper radiator hose to get enough hand clearance to get a ratchet on it to secure it in place. Other than that the install took only about 30 minutes. The sound of this pipe is amazing and definitely is audible even when inside the car with windows up. If you prefer engine noise to a minimum then don't get this product and stick with the OEM airbox.

I installed my Injen in about an hour. I got it from mike@x-ph.com. It does has one bolt that was a chore to secure. And it give me a couple of rough starts (strange idle). But two months in, it is amazing. Sound, looks and performance is spot on.

I'm gonna try do do everything I can to keep my on. I never did an ECU reset so I'll try that as well as cleaning the MAF again and checking for leaks.
I really would like to keep it, bit couldn't justify it if i t makes my car run rough. I'll also be adding a jb4 today hopefully. I am not sure if that will help me out. We will see. |

Does anyone notice a lower pitched almost rattle sound between 1700 and 2100 rpm? It is easiest to hear on the highway cruising then apply very light throttle.
I am familiar with the whistle sound while accelerating. And the psssssshhs sound when the dv valve dumps. But this is a different sound I wasn't expecting. The sound is very faint btw |

I found a video of waste gate rattle. It didn't really sound like it. Hard to tell though. I also haven't heard anyone mention it on these forums where as the n54 I heard it was pretty common.

I'll try snugging everything up again. I checked the other day and it seemed pretty tight although the filer could be moved if you tried |

Yeah, my filter can be wiggled too. No rattles though. :/ Hope you can track it down.

I've been thinking about getting a new CAI but the videos I've seen online - the cars lose the exhaust burble and I love that thing. Anyone with an Injen/BMS say that's the case?

I'm also considering a new intake because getting mapped + exhaust next week. I was really believing in the BMS intake. Because is uses basicly the same good parts from stock combined with really good flow. Unfortunately I see quite a lot of tests where the intake temperature gets higher with longer 2-3-4-5 pulls.
My car will be on track regularly and then it sounds like a big negative tbh. Any advise/comments on this? (I've read like a million things about intakes on N55 recently and really can't make up my mind :P) |

I usually Roll Injen Intakes, I like their look and sound.
Rolled injen on my 2010 135i was good. This 2015 2er I had gotten the BMS Intake for it, but the turbo whine was way too loud for my liking. and it was using a hell of allot of gas after install. no CEL though. went a few hundred miles on that then settled on the Dinan CAI. I like it, looks great not sure about any performance gain on its own. But whatever still looks nice. Weird, people say you have to cut a bracket to fit it in? must be a different year than mine, I didn't have to cut anything to install see below... Last edited by usabia; 06-16-2016 at 07:55 PM.. |

If you have a rattle from the waste gate during idle, Id recommend taking it into the dealership - there is a Test plan through the scan tool that helps us techs adjust the actuator and make adjustments. Not going to lie - the adjustment is tedious and can be annoying to do. But if there is a complaint from the customer - and your vehicle still is under warranty - It will most likely be covered. If your vehicle isn't under warranty - shouldn't be anymore than 1.5 hours labour for the adjustment. |

At this point I am going to keep the stock intake in. I will keep the Ingen for now as I am working on my JB4 install. (also having issues). One I get the JB4 sorted out I may re-try the intake to see if I am getting the same issue. How I miss that sound though! |

Dang, that sucks dude. The only time get bogging is when I'm in too low of a gear. With the stock intake the car could pull through it. Not as much with the Injen. Other than that I've been good to go.

It was almost felt like the more smoothly I came back on the power the more it wanted to bog. It actually almost stalled out on me one time when I was trying to replicate the bogging. (8spd auto) No cell and no issues now though. |
