I'll have an updated Dyno... Hopefully by next Monday... I know, I know... It's a long wait... But, that's the way it's gotta be, you know, I got life going on.

Not to mention, gotta be at the ORIOLES game tonight and tomorrow.

It is a free update, completely... And should be a smooth transaction with any knowledgeable Dinan Dealer.
Sorry you had such a rough time with the dealer. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and you will at least have a small window to test out the update in all it's glory.

Enjoy the Orioles games. With a bit of luck hopefully the Giants and O's can meet in the series. I think that would be the best series personally with the teams that remain.

I noticed that the Dinan website now shows true stock numbers (I'm assuming dyno) of their test car..

Max HP Gain 38 @ 5000 RPM
Max Torque Gain 59 @ 3000 RPM
Peak Horsepower 364 @ 5500 RPM
Peak Torque 430 @ 3000 RPM
Stock HP 320 (326 Measured)
Stock Torque 330 (379 Measured)

Interesting that their test car dyno'd at 326/379 which makes the tune gain presumably even less...

Anyway, now if we could get true numbers of what their test car is doing -after- their tune....!! I'm looking at you Dinan_Engineering!

......... or did the software update and the 'new' numbers make the advertised Dinan numbers the actual whp?!

Edit: I guess maybe the (measured) values could also be true engine dyno results?

Nothing has changed. The 'measured' numbers that are now present on the specs page were always there within the data table / chart. Upon request I have simply stated the factory rating vs. actual measured stock as clearly as possible on the same line. The gains and peaks remain unchanged (other than reflecting the new TRQ increase with the new software/firmware update).

do you (dinan) anticipate further updates, or is your stage 1 tune now "final"?

I am under the impression that this is the final iteration of the tune. However, as was the case with this past update the development of other tunes sometimes give insights that could further help previously released tunes. If this is the case going forward then there is the possibility that there may be a further update(s). I would not bank on that possibility however.

Yes. A stage 2 tune will be released after the Dinan cold air intake is finalized and released. No new numbers are available as of yet on what that tune may be producing since the recent software/firmware update.

Are your tunes programmed for 91 or 93 octane?

If 91, can you guys do a custom tune for 93 octane?

All tunes are based on 93 octane considering that is what the vast majority of the masses have access to.

Since you guys are local, where are you getting your 93 octane for testing? Or are you mixing fuels to get to an approximate 93 octane, and if so what's the mixture?

We blend 91 and 100 octane in order to create 93 octane. I am not present when they do the mixing so I could not tell you exactly what ratio they use. Percentage wise its roughly 25% 100 octane and 75% 91 octane.

There are plenty of mix calculators online though that do the conversion for you in a click of a button. Just did a quick google search for octane mix calculators and the first one that popped up seems to do the job just fine. http://wallaceracing.com/octane-mix-calc.php

Got the update... car feels a bit quicker. It was hassle free and very quick (1.5 hours).

I had zero questions asked by BMW dealer. I'm glad I went with Dinan.

At 40mph I put it to the floor and broke the tires easily. Car feels great.

Sounds like you will be buying the Stage 2 upgrade for what will be more than likely a $500 or less up charge over the Stage 1.

Still enjoying my aFe Scorcher for now with no complaints; except maybe the wildlife who think it's hunting season when I do full throttle shifts

Fletch, I know you had already done a dyno once but I can't find it the results. Could you post your initial dyno results with the Dinan SI tune?

Will be very interesting to see the results from the initial Dinan SI tune to what the car puts out with this 'update'.

Hello,
I am wondering what the ramifications of the extra torque on the ZF trans are. It appears to be rated for only 332 ft lbs. With X drive you should be able to put that power down. Any thoughts or data from Dinan? I have a 235 xdrive on order and would like the tune but this is a concern.
Cheers!

Where did you see this 332 ft-lbs rating? The car puts down more than that STOCK.... to the wheels, which means the transmission itself will see more since it is upstream in the driveline and that is, again, STOCK from BMW.

I can guarantee you that BMW did not engineer their transmission to have a factor of safety of 1.0 or less.

I'm pretty sure I read on ZF website that this transmission was rated at 700 ft/lbs max torque. I'll have to see if I can dig it up quick

EDIT: Found the link, max torque is 750 NM

No, I'm pretty sure it's the ZF 8 speed listed.

450nm is only 331ft/lb torque. There are tunes putting down way more than that right now.

750nm is 553ft/lbs torque which is more likely what we have in our cars.
