Looks like Dinan stage 4 is overpriced if you don't care about warranty

I found a launch control to 100+ mph video from the dinan stage 4 m2 that I used to have. (DCT) I decided to throw it into premiere and sync the start up to the exact frame against my stage 2 m235i. (rwd, zf8, wagner dp, hex stage 2) The results are fairly surprising since the dinan stage 4 upgrades the turbo compressor and intercooler. (while my m235i only has DP+tune)

Dinan is conservative/safe tuning with warranty so not surprising it is considered overpriced if one doesn't care about either?

Breaking news: paying for warranty if you don't want warranty means you're paying too much.

Tune in later tonight for an exclusive finding: water is wet.

Watch out, the smartasses showed up to class.

Let me make this more clear. The APR Plus tune for my 2017 R8 V10 that includes a similar factory matching warranty is $5000.

The dinan setup was $7000 installed. For gains that barely outperform a simple stage 1 piggyback, let alone stage 2.

Warranty isn't cheap, but after reading about dinan warranty woes, I think their price is high.

And plus, I was curious to see the difference, hence why I bothered posting this. People who don't care about warranty can see what exactly that $7k gets you. If you don't care, that's great. Move along.

Agreed to all of this. It's also apparent, though not really surprising, that Dinan is quite conservative....even with their "big" turbo.

I'm also interested to see how the Hex tune handles the hot and humid Kansas summer. The power with these flash tunes is super impressive, but I do wonder how the N55 will handle high temps and humidity seeing that the stock N55 M2 has issues handling summer weather and will yank timing and neuter power above 5,000rpms. I know a better FMIC will help, but just how much better will it be in daily driving where airflow is low and heat soak potential is really high. I know I could feel power being pulled with just my Dinan Sport set on Sport+ (3 psi) when the car was heat soaked and temps were 80+.

I look forward to you before/after FMIC dyno and continued data gathering.

Yeah I'm curious as well. We'll find out soon!

As for the dinan being conservative, I've had it go limp mode a couple times from bad gas. (though that might have happened even when bone stock for all I know)

dude dynoed 391 wheel i think it was in a stg 4 dinan 235.

Remember this is with oem down pipe, so if your catted sport / catless very easy to get into 400.

ditch their tune for bm3, you could probably see 425whp on stock fuel. 440 or more with meth or PI.

What you get on a dyno doesn't mean anything unless you did a baseline on the same dyno to compare it to. What was your baseline?

APR Plus tune is only flash tune (?) w/ warranty. Gain +100 hp / +22 tq for $5k?

Dinan Stg4 is piggy back, intercooler and big turbo w/ warranty. Gain +120 hp / +133 tq for $7k installed?

Not sure how that is an apples to apples comparison.

Now if you want to compare pure turbo w/ JB4 vs Dinan stg4 performance costs...

$5k warranty tune for a $178,000 car. Repairs on it are way more expensive. (Ask me how I have the misfortune of knowing)
