10 Min Driving & I knew I'll Tune My New M235i

Greetings Boys !

So it Finally is here! and it also happens the first time I ever drive a 2 series, never done even a test drive , now the car is on 17" Blizak WS80 very tender and soft so the Driving dynamics are not optimal but right off the bat , it lacks the Frenetic Temper ( The Wow Effect ) of my old 135i N54 Tuned ( stage 1 only ) , when we drive something raw and beastly, it will stay the Benchmark in a sense , After Breaking in the Engine i'm 100% sure it will get a Tune in Spring

Thank you

Awesome!!
Planning on adding a tune only, or eventually more mods along the way?

AA8 which is like stage 1.5 seems to be the best option for me by now, i like the fact that it is Boost by RPM , in my book it is like Dinan Stage 2 for less money what do you think ??? i chose it over JB4 only for weather proof protection that seems to be better .

AA8 is a great option for a stage 1 like install with some added features.

Where can you find more information on it. Their site is pretty much just filled with marketing with no real information.

I respect you guys that tune your engines. You all have big brass ones.

I stress about my active headlights going out and getting a 2k bill let alone a 20k engine going up in smoke...

Sweet, thanks Mike. I'm still trying to figure out the order of things. I thought I'd be starting out with an exhaust, but decided to get xpel done first. That stuff took a huge chunk of the ole mods budget.

If you go with just a stage 1 tune you should be fine man. You can also do what I'm going to do which is to set $3,000 on the side in a bank account I rarely look at as your repairs budget. That way if something comes up there's no worry because the money is already there. Once you use it you can replenish it over time as you see fit.

This is (will, i don't get the car until March) my first BMW and I was worried about expensive repairs and maintenance. After doing some research it seemed like $3,000 set aside would more than cover me for any typical visits to a repair shop.

Well, I like the color you picked. Mine will also be Estoril. I thought long and hard about the red leather, but decided on the Oyster for a bigger visual impact. I'm not sure what color your wheels are? Ferric? They look a little darker than Ferric but not as dark as Orbit.

My plan is to drive my new M235 for at least a year before I start thinking about any mods. But I'm coming from a N/A 330i, not a car that had a greater power to weight ratio.

Fabspeed offers a variety of hardware products and they even have an in-house tuner that is excellent and will for-sure take your car to the next level.

Yes Ferric Grey , thing is once you Owned a Modded Car it comes like the Benchmark , a small 330 whp 135i feels so mental and urgent , i know it had only 30 whp more but in a lil chassis dimensions they felt absolutely biblical .

i like my cars to be engine Dominant to have that feeling that i can never explore its limits, the M235i seems very neutral, it flatters you . it can handle more power for sure

I've known people who have grenaded N/A American made V8s engines that have been in production for half a decade and have extensive history of successful tunes because of a single sensor failure. The risk is fairly low but the impact is very high if something goes wrong. 3k wont even touch the cost of repairs on a grenaded engine without warranty.

In as much as I respect your opinion and your willingness to soak up risk, the option of voiding my warranty and the possibility of a 20k scares me off.

Oh man, yeah that would scare me too. :/ You could always go with a Dinan tune which does not void your warranty as they are a BMW authorized shop. I believe, and please pardon me if I'm wrong, that you can even get an extended warranty with the tune. Just something to think about if you find that you want more power without voiding the warranty.

I am still on the fence about tuning my M235i. I am coming from a 2012 JB4 135i 6MT, and the 8AT M235 just feels like it pulls so much harder and more consistent than the 1er. I believe I will end up going with the A8 as well, but stock is still damn impressive.

I had to convert after living in Chicago for three years...stick in a primarily stop and go city is the absolute worst. Plus the 8AT is still so much fun, nice to shift when I want, but also nice to be able to kick back and relax. AA8 is probably my move but won't be until spring most likely.

Wow, we have the same car, color, wheels, but different winter tires.

If we end up at the same mall, don't think I'm trying to steal your car, just confused!
