So there's this M2 coming out next year...
Now that we know nearly all details except official price, what say you M235i owners? 228i owners? Will you go to the full M? Do you regret your 2er purchase or feel slighted by BMW regarding the supposed low base MSRP?
I know for me I really really enjoy my M235xi as a daily driver and back road carver (on rare occasion). It's a car I can use on the street and enjoy the entire chassis and power level. I like RWD but on a cool rainy morning like today, I also like having my drivetrain hook up without questions, and in Seattle this type of weather is always around. BUT I can't ignore that I want more power (don't need it though!) and I want a tighter, more thrilling suspension. The M visual touches (dem hips!) and M speed touches of DCT and LSD cannot be ignored. This M2 is going to be a better performing car by all measures except helping you abide the law. I'm in a lease through 2018 now and I'm happy with it. I am disappointed that my MSRP was into M2 territory but there's no solution to that now. If I were buying now, I would not be able to swallow a 2er into the $50k range after negotiation though. At lease end it will be interesting to see what is available and how the M2 is perceived at that time. It will definitely be on my list for possible next car. |

No regrets on my '16 M235i purchase. I needed a car now and who knows how long the wait will be for the M2. I am going to have fun modding my car and have no reason to look back.

To be honest, I don't need more power or a harsher ride than my M235i. I feel that the M235i will be a better daily driver. The M2 will be a better track car.
I don't need a track car. |

So to me, the M2 mainly improves power and handling over a stock m235i. I'm sure the DCT is a better transmission than the ZF. With that said, a stage 1 tune on an m235i will get you close in power and a good set of springs will firm up the suspension. Basically, it doesn't take much to take an m235i and make it similar to the M2, atleast on paper. Obviously, we still have no idea how it truly drives.
There are a few things I noticed that I'd like to get opinions on. First is the carbon fiber trim. Do you think it'll fit in the m235i?? I'm not a huge fan of the ///M Performance logo on the trim currently available. Second, is the hood. Why no bump like the M3/M4? I think that would be a nice addition to the car. and maybe vents like the e92 m3. Third, is the mirrors. I know it's been beaten to death already but WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?? That styling is pertinent to ///M cars, it is awfully disappointing they are the same mirrors as the rest of the 2ers, mainly because I was hoping the ///M mirror caps would fit my car... Lastly, are there no M buttons on the wheel? Compared to where they are on the rest of the ///M cars, they look blank in these pictures. What do you guys think. |

I thought the MSRP would be $60k, not $51k. Interesting. Do you think the dealerships will jack up the price for the first year because of limited availability? Also, what are the "must have" options on an M2, do you think, that might put it closer to $60k+?

After the reveal, I don't know that I like the stylings better than the 235i. The trim pieces don't sit right with me, though I still need to see it in person. At this moment I much prefer the Mannhart widebody kit or M235i Racing to the M2 stylings.
It was honestly underwhelming, and I feel no worse off with the 235i. No carbon roof, hood bulge, side mirror (lol), and SAME WEIGHT (smh...). It's basically 235 with a 30bhp bump and upgraded suspension parts, neither of which I could benefit from on a daily basis. Very very content with the 235 now.

I have a 2016 M235i on the way. I should be able to pick it up in the next 2 weeks.
I feel a little conflicted about the M2 because my M235i is optioned past $50K. However, I got xdrive because of where I live and I think I would be even more terrified of the many potholes and crappy roads here if I had 19" wheels and stiffer suspension on an M2. I love the look of the M2 over the M235 but I also don't need a track car. And more power?? My test drive on the M235i showed me how scary quick it is to get past 100 mph without even thinking about it. Maybe I'll regret having an M235i instead of an M2 later on but it wouldn't really be for any good reason. |

I have an M235i that I've done some pretty extensive handling/drivetrain mods to.
TBH, kind of underwhelmed by the M2. Sure, it's better than the M235i, but I'm not blown away. If the M2 was available when I got my car, I definitely would have sprung for the M2, but, I'm happy with what I have, especially with all the work I've put into it. Also, I know everyone loves the M visual appearance that the M2 has over the M235i, but, I dunno, I kind of dig the sleeper look. Maybe it's just me. Oh, also, Terra leather ftw. Can't get that in the M2 .

My lease will be up in less than a year and a half, just in time to scoop up a year two production M2. However, I doubt I will go that route as nothing about the M2 really excites me as much as I had hoped.
I usually like to go a step up from one car to the next and I honestly feel underwhelmed by the M2 and think that I am only getting a marginally better car by going from the 235 to the M2. Yes, the M2 has a slightly better everything. But, it is not significant enough for me to feel like I am really getting something that is a whole lot better. If this were two years ago when I was shopping around, I would have gotten the M2 and it would have been a no brainer. I do track my current 235 and the M2 would definitely be better in all the areas that my 2 struggles in on the track. But, I think I need to go more the route of the M3/M4. I don't mind the price difference and would have happily paid M3/M4 prices for an M2 if it was the same quality vehicle since I definitely prefer the smaller form factor. However, BMW had to keep pricing down to compete and therefore sacrificed quality in my opinion. |

I'm now extremely skeptical of the $51k base figure floating around at the m2 subforum.
http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/10/13/bm...os-in-germany/ 56700 in Germany just doesn't line up with $51000 in the U.S. In Germany, the m235i starts at 44900 while the base U.S. msrp is $45145 (including destination). Using that as a rule of thumb, it wouldn't shock me if the U.S. msrp of the m2 turns out to be more like $57000. |

But seeing it now.. I donīt know. Things are just adding up that I donīt like. Donīt like the front bumper, donīt like the rear bumper, miss the ///M-mirrors, the bespoke seats. I donīt even like the color too much (prefer EB). For me itīs a wider M235i with 4 exhaust tips and slightly better suspension (just ordered KW V3, so thatīs fine) that costs something like 10-15k more. No, thanks. |

Same here. According to the Auto Express video, the M2 won't be available until around April 2016, and it'll probably be quite some time after that before one is easily attainable at MSRP or less. I also prefer EB to LBB by quite a bit.

Well i don't think you should regret your decision in buying 228i-235i or 235iXdrive, The reason for that being yes in many aspects the M2 is a better car when it comes to performance and hopefully handling we don't know that lets just remember that it hasn't received any reviews yet, Nor has it been fully tested by real people in the real world on behavior or how it handles day to day situations.
If you are planning to change car in 3-4 years or so maybe then if the M2 is still the most attractive car for you the go for it. Because by then we should have received all the LCI updates on the M2 and also all so called "Baby fault's" should have been addressed, And if you don't like the body styling of the M2 i'm sure a lot of parts for the right amount of money will be buy able to be used with the M235i. For example i can't see why we wouldn't be able to upgrade our own lights to the LCI Version its probably ain't gonna be much difference in the looks or fitment department when they are released so its probably gonna be bolt on. And in a year or two if you ain't satisfied with the looks of the M235i there is the M-Performance parts and probably some crazy firm will be able to fit the body of the M2 on to your M235i in case you would want that considering a lot of people are buying wide body kits. The only thing i do regret truly with having the M235i is not being able to have those damn beautiful rims that comes with the M2 Both cars are extremely well built, They are German, They still do and will continue to do so is turn heads. There is both pro and cons to the cars that speaks for them self. In 2-3 years i might get a M2 i am not sure depends on where in my life i will be and what kinda of car might fit me then. Until then i am gonna follow the M2 closely and enjoy my M235i |

The suspension could be firmer in sport mode I suppose but I have no regrets at all. I've owned my stock M235xi w/automatic transmission since 10/29/2014 and it's the best daily driver that I have every experienced. It's also the best car I've ever owned. I live in a condo and I only have room for 1 car and no storage space for an extra set of wheels. I need one (1) fast car that can drive in four seasons and is comfortable for a 90 minute roundtrip commute to work. BMW's xdrive on this particular vehicle is incredible. So much confidence inspiring grip and stability. For those who have commented that they don't like the performance aspects or added weight of xdrive on their 328 or 335, I'm sorry to hear that. Give the M235xi a test drive. You won't regret it either. Power wise, I'm very happy. I've owned a 2009 335i coupe with Dinan stage 2 s/w. My M235xi feels (subjective I know) faster. And the automatic transmission is superb. Smooth as silk in traffic and backroads. Gear shifts are seamless. All this performance and cabin tech with the most ergonomically designed cockpit I've ever experienced for $48K? Bravo to BMW! This car is AWESOME!!! |

You guys that have m235s today are in the sweet spot, you just dont know it yet.
We probably wont see general availability for the M2 for 12 to 18 months. I would be willing to bet that the M2 that is on the lot in 18-24 months is vastly improved compared to what will be on the lots in six months(CF roof, mirrors, interior). In addition you will pay below MSRP and not have to pay ADM. You guys will will be getting out of your cars and getting ready to step into a new car when the M2 comes into maturity, has the bugs worked out and has improvements. Everybody is excited about the car but Im not sure wading into a first year car is the greatest idea.... Winning at life is a patient mans game... |

No CF roof
No nice M seats like the rest of the lineup No big weight reduction Front & Rear bumpers don't look better IMO (rear looks X6M-like) Power that my stage 1 tune has already overcome The only things I really like are the extra cooling and suspension upgrades. I thought I was going to hate my 235i now but I don't. I think me not liking the overall widebody is the reason I'm feeling this way. If it were very similar to the m235i exterior but with a widebody, I might be hurting a little bit but I'm fine now. |
