New Guy Here
Sold my 2002 325i and my 2003 Z4 (manuals) and bought an M240i auto. Hard choice after driving manuals all my life but am an older guy now.
Bought my first BMW in '75. Here is a pic of my beautiful wife in our '75 2002 in the Arizona desert. Waiting for the 240i to get on a boat. I suppose I am addicted to BMW's....could be worse. Rob View post on imgur.com Last edited by Redsauce; 05-30-2018 at 11:10 AM.. |

Which number have you been calling? My car has been "Production Ends" status online for over 2 weeks now.
Update 5/23/18: Looks like my status just changed to "En Route to the U.S." WOOT!

You can log on to BMWUSA.com and sign up as 'owner' and then track your car being built. A bit convoluted but you don't need to call the 'genius' who just looks at the same information. My dealer and the 'genius' has the limited info that you get on this site. No explanation is given as to why I have been waiting for 8 weeks and the car is still in Germany. I don't know if it is in Bremerhaven or the factory lot in Leipzig. I guess the best things in life are worth waiting for. This is probably true.

Welcome and great choice. I came from 2 S2000's and 2 Wranglers all sticks. I'm older too and love the auto. The tranny is fantastic and and a blast to drive. And you always have the paddles.

I'm in Wisconsin, I do not know where it will be coming in through but I'd assume east coast and then whatever haul it'll take through the country to get to my dealer.

I was in the same boat. I turn 40 this year and have only ever owned manual cars. My '17 M240Xi was the first auto I've ever bought/owned. I really do miss shifting gears but for a daily driver in DC traffic, I'm glad I gave my left leg a break. If it was a weekend warrior, I would have gone M2 in manual, but I still don't regret the decision. I put the Dinan midpipe on it and the stage 1 tune. It's a little blue beast that makes me smile every time I blip the throttle and kick the tail out. After a year of driving it, I'm finally getting the handle of my left leg doing nothing after 24 years of shifting gears the old fashioned way. Cheers on the purchase!

Welcome, and sorry to hear of the long wait times lately. I kept myself sort of half-sane during my wait by going thru the online manual a few times - it helped but there were (are) still things that perplexed me.

Thanks for the greetings. Yes, after 8 weeks I was informed yesterday by my dealership that the vehicle is now in Bremerhaven, waiting for a boat. Since I live in Seattle, I suspect that it will be another month before I pick it up. Dealer suggested during purchase, which of course is not finalized, that it would be 6-8 weeks but usually closer to 6. Since I sold both of my other cars I am asking my dealer for a loaner for the interim of the wait. So far no reply to my request..I'll let you guys know how this turns out. Thanks, too for the encouragement about the automatic tranny. Back in the day, there were two types of men,..manual transmission....and those others. funny how things change,,Gotta' adapt and overcome.

Thank you Mike, Sportstick, for your gracious welcome. I have posted elsewhere here that my M240i auto, rear wheel dr, non RF, is on the vessel Grand Hero in mid Atlantic. Seattle BMW has given me a loaner due to the unusually long wait, which is appropriate and well appreciated too. The 2018 3.0 X3 loaner is one sexy vehicle..... It will be another month at least until my car is delivered. A lot of time to overthink..as all you know. Should I have waited for a 2019? or an M2? The only hesitation is that I ordered an auto, (always driven MT). Both transmissions are great but ole timers like me, we will always miss that third pedal. WhaTEVER........
