Headrest and helmet fit

I find that once my seat is positioned where I want it and I have my helmet on the headrest pushed the helmet and subsequently, my head, too far forward. The passengers in my car have noticed the same problem so I know it is not just me. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? It would be nice if the headrest sat back and inch or two more.

thanks

I reclined the seatback far enough that the problem was solved. I also sit up on the wheel, which may have helped make that work. I don't think seat height makes a difference, but mine's as low as it will go (or very close to it).

IIRC, a solution that's been offered here before is to turn the headrest around. Maybe someone else can weigh-in on whether or not that helps.

I've done that. It helped a bit.
But then for the life of me, couldn't turn it back around. Whatever the latching is, didn't seem to be symmetrical.

I think some users here have ordered the F3x series adjustable headrests. I've been looking for one in the Red Dakota Leather but can't figure out the part number.

If that doesn't work out you could always throw some racing buckets at the problem.

I had the same issue. The flange cover around the base of the left post snaps off to reveal a hidden second release button. I leave these covers off on both front seats now, it’s just easier this way, even if a little uglier.

I had the same issue, and solved it with ordering the headrest from an F30 3 series off ebay (less than $50). I only got one to se how it worked, but you can also find pairs, most colors if you wait and look. It gives me enough room, but reversing the headrest gets you even more.

If you do the reverse-headrest routine, you will end up with a 'stuck' headrest b/c there are detents that you cannot easily release. One option, as noted above, is pulling the top trim so you can still work the mechanism. Alternately, I made up some shims out of a cut up soda can that wrap around the stem of the headrest and they block the detent-bar. If you are already at the 'stuck headrest' stage you can usually get a fine pick in against the post to push the detent back, or you'll be able to figure how to work the release (there is a thread on here in more detail, and somebody ended up getting dealership to deconstruct the seat - probably overkill for this).
