Bluetooth music keeps dying
When I bought my 2017 M240i, bluetooth music from my iPhone XR worked perfectly. Whatever I played on my phone (music, spotify, etc) just came out in the car.
Maybe a month in I bought the $200 connected service bundle in order to have the spotify app come up, along with the various other toys. Everything I bought works, spotify comes up now, etc. However since this update, bluetooth music just crashes out sometimes. Rarely, while driving, more often, just not working when i get back in the car. When this happens, the only sure fix is to reboot the iDrive AND reboot the iPhone, then it's fine, 100% of the time. Sometimes a reboot of the iPhone and a re-pair is enough, but most of the time not, if I don't also reboot iDrive. Nothing short of that works, I've tried dozens of things on both sides that are less intrusive with no joy. All this time, phone is working fine, just music dies. While this is happening, the car sees the phone, the phone sees the car and thinks it's playing on it. However, tracks don't show on the car, and music does not come out. But I can place calls, use siri, etc the entire time. Called connected drive, they (the "Genius") told me to re-pair. Yay, thanks. Said talk to service. I talked to Service. They said they have no idea but suggested reloading the entire software load on the car, 3h job. Sorry I didn't notice if/when my iOS might have updated slightly during this process. It's sitting at 14.4.2 today, I generally take updates as they are offered. Car was purchased about 2 months ago. Any thoughts people? |

Have you updated your infotainment software? There have been a couple of new versions since the 2017 M240i was built, this is one update you can do yourself: https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html

I don't see any option to go back to an older version either, so I guess I'm waiting for the next one. Slight update, the system reboots itself spontaneously every once in a while, maybe once every two weeks. Otherwise still behaves as described previously. Quite frustrating actually. |
