F22 ambient interior lighting?

I bought my '17 M240i used and wonder if it (is supposed to) have ambient lighting. There seems to be some settings in BrimmerCode but I have not been able to activate anything?

Can the car look like this? https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comment...ol_color_combo

Ambient lighting in the F22/F23 vehicles is certainly behind the times compared to most vehicles available today and even compared to other vehicles which were developed and released at the same time as the first 2 Series cars. We are not alone though, as other "high end" cars suffer similar ambient light deficiencies like Porsche and Audi for example.

Porsche and Audi have the right ideas - fluff like ambient lighting should not be a standard feature of enthusiast focused cars.

No. The ambient lights are the two pin hole lights near the ceiling cabin lights. They can either be amber or white (in my 2021 m240) and the dimness can be adjusted (they are never bright).

To each their own. My cars are are all daily driver's and never see a minute of track time. As such, I appreciate the "fluff" with things like ambient lighting, among other creature comforts we have become accustomed to. The ambient lighting in my old MINI Cooper S was much appreciated on long night time drives.

Stock, the ambient lighting is tied to the dash brightness. If you keep the dash lights down, the ambient lights are pretty much off. You should see it in the footwells as you turn the dash brightness up. There's a ambient lighting brightness setting in idrive, but it does nothing unless you code the ambient lighting to divorce it from the dash brightness controls.

But, as others have noted, it's nothing like the pic in your link. It's a slight glow in the front footwells only.

So the real question is why you want the lights on inside the car while you are driving it.
That aside, the ambient lights in this vehicle are minimal at best, because, like all good BMWs, it has very little ambiance.

$500 extra for some LEDs and wire.

The only thing I've seen BMW charge more for is the 2er LSD. An LSD on a 981 was $1,320, coming bundled with Porsche Torque Vectoring (inside rear wheel braking.) A 2er LSD is at least double that money, either port or dealer installed.
