Post Passenger 12v Cigarette Lighter Retrofit

Hey y'all,

I've owned my 2021 M240i for almost a month now and while I sure do LOVE it, it's missing one small feature that takes it from a 9 to a 10 in my book. My last two cars had 12v cigarette lighter sockets under the glove box for dashcams/radar detectors and I was bummed that my F22 didn't have a built-in cigarette lighter like my old E60.

Fortunately, there's a solution! On my car there is an empty socket that's the perfect size for a cigarette lighter!

So, without further ado, here's what you'll need:

For the trouble of putting in the cig socket, why not just hardwire your accessory?

any luck with this? ive been trolling through realoem to try and find an OE wiring harness for this, whether it is an additional one or part of a larger one, but cant find the answer.

I have no idea! Been super busy lately as they have been shuffling me back and forth from the office to back to home and whatnot so it’s safe to say that things are quite hectic! Once things get cooler I’m gonna try another crack at this again but I want to try to get something going this weekend. Stay tuned y’all I SWEAR it’ll be worth it!

^^ thanks man.

I looked at this on my wife's F30 as she has this socket. It is def already part of the main harness and it disappears under the passenger side carpet. I opted not to take her car apart any further, lol.

For sure dude! My friend has some shop space opening up once his Dakota tranny project finalizes, so there will be much more activity here once I get some room and shade. It’s hot as fuck here in Tejas, but I WILL get this done—heatstroke notwithstanding…

I will be able to document and lead us though this adventure in the next two weeks or so. I got a partner in crime to help me out this time so it should be a super fun one

UPDATE

Hey y'all. Soooo long story short I sold the car. Went back to the E9X platform! But for all you DIYers out there don't fret! The rest of this mod is pretty straight forward. Just find a suitable 12V source and ground and wire the prongs accordingly. If this seems a tad abstract for y'all then find a local audio or electronics shop to steer you guys in the right direction. Apologies for not finishing the thread but it is what it is lol. PEACE
