Which parts supplier would you all recommend ordering the bulb socket and wiring harness from? I'm just getting started on my out-of-warranty DIY repair journey (for this car).
Start by politely but firmly asking your dealer to replace this as a warranty/recall item; tell them you heard that these were all supposed to have been fixed under warranty, perhaps they missed that in the CPO review (it may technically be something less stringent than a warranty/recall, whatever they call the ones where they wait for it to break but then fix it free). Never hurts to mention how worried you can get that your BMW might 'burn out' or 'catch on fire' - it won't catch fire, but still sounds terrible for a BMW. They may say no, but worth a shot as a first pass. I think this is one that they got liberal with (i.e. liberal criteria to replace), probably b/c the parts aren't much and it is a 10 minute fix. If they won't, they should at least order you up the right parts. And if you end up DIY, be careful with the water seals around the edge; they got one of mine folded over wrong and it wouldn't seal, needed a redo.

How many miles of fuel left did it show, I've ran mine pretty low before and didn't notice anything different.

This may explain why BMW decided to turn on the fuel light so early. I’ve never had a car before this display the light at a strong quarter tank.

On the 2017 M240i the first low fuel warning comes on at 90km range (about 56 miles) with the orange low fuel symbol, that correlates to about 1/8 of a tank on the highway or 1/4 of a tank when driven in a spirited manner, then at 50km range (about 30 miles) with the red fuel symbol.

my recollection was that I was maybe 10-15 miles into the low fuel light coming on.

Also about a month ago I had the same symptoms with nearly full tank.

shut car off - started ran fine.

I hate intermittent issues.

Radio Static

I've had this weird issue for a while where my radio gets static when I come to a stop. Release the brake and the static goes away. Dealership said they fixed it with a software update... nope. Still there. Now that I'm out of warranty I kind of don't care anymore. Will probably just add a ground at some point. Anyone else experience this?

My radio in my 2017 M240i randomly drops and picks up radio stations. No rhyme or reason to cause it.

Right rear turn signal malfunction, comes and goes. Been replaced 3 times. Under seat subs shut off a few times. Pebble in the brakes. Phone connectivity issues since day one. So many gremlins in this car, will be leaving the brand for volvo or acura.

No kidding.

I've owned many Volvos, going back to the 1960s, and most recently a 2006 V70R.

At this late date, if reliability is your principal focus, my suggestion is to solely consider Japanese and/or Korean cars. Volvos are not what they once were.

Today, my fun car is my M240i. I bought it because it could be halfway decent at the track, and it was. I also bought it because it is in almost every way today's personification of my grey-market 1985 M635CSi. I didn't realize that when I bought the M240i, but that's been reinforced to me almost every time I now drive it; and, as an "old car guy", it's made me appreciate my car all the more.

The daily driver my wife and I drive is her 2015 Mazda 3 2.5l 6-speed hatchback, which just happens to be a pretty darn nice car in its own right. Truly, go Mazda!

I have numerous friends who can afford whatever they might choose. Most have chosen Japanese and Korean SUVs (yes, we're in the Midwest), while their wives have chosen German SUVs. The husbands all comment, very politely, upon how much more it costs to maintain their wives' German SUVs. No kidding.

Something to look into.
Spot on. After replacing and registering the new battery the studder in 1st at startup is gone. I noticed a lot of low voltage faults after running a health check with Carly. Even though I bought the Carly just to register the battery, figured might as well take advantage of it. Coded out the warning screens on the idrive startup and reverse camera. Tried to code the sport displays on but for some reason they don’t show up in the menu. I know people have coded the sport displays with bimmerlink, not sure if the car needs nav and or tech packages for this to work.

I've had this a few times too - happened each time when flooring it from routine speed to pass somebody, and after a fairly long spirited mountain drive. Not always in the wet, but cooler weather. I got limp and the 'drivetrain malfunction' screen, disappears after restart. Dealer says if the error isn't showing, there is no code to read. Mike Miller guessed a battery issues, but that was over a year ago on the same battery with no signs battery is failing (and dealer said it passed check). Never happened on track, even when I was getting a fuel warning light.

Whenever the outside temperature goes at or below freezing, I get the Windshield Washer Fluid Level Low signal whenever I start or stop the engine. Works fine all spring, summer and fall, but come winter.... "DING".

Regarding the previous post, I have had no such luck. Apparently shaving my head was not as an attractive trait as I was led to believe...

My only "weird" thing and I believe this has been mentioned on the forum previously is the random opening of the trunk (or boot). I have not been able to correlate an event to this phenomenon but it is rather annoying.

I have noticed the the frequency is decreasing over time. Not sure what this means...

I've been having semi regular alerts that my cruise control is inactive. This occurs often after hard left turns in cold or rainy weather. When it happens my steering wheel lights for audio and cruise go out. It generally corrects after a few minutes. Seems that my wheel is losing power temporarily. Maybe a dirty or corroded contact? Anyone else experience this?

Similar thing happened to mine a couple years ago. I had an aftermarket air intake that I believe let too much moisture through and caused it to misfire. Promptly returned to stock intake and changed out spark plugs.. hasn’t happened since.

2019 M240 X-Drive

1. Left rear taillight assembly replaced (got the error code about 10 times)
2. Carplay won't connect occasionally... maybe 1/20 times.
3. Trunk doesn't latch despite appearing to be closed. Happens frequently.

One very cold winter (3-4 years ago), my 228i decided to take a moment of silence. No music would play ( radio / usb / bluetooth ). Everything else would work, just no sound. Later that day, when driving home ( after being parked in the sun for 8-9h ) everything was ok. Never happened again.
