1st 2nd gear jerking
Hey was wondering if anyone had this issue. It's not really a problem the car drives fine. I have a 2015 m235i convertible rwd. When I'm in sport and in manual shifting from 1st to 2nd the shift is not smooth there's a jerk as if the transmission is an old Tiptronic version. From 2nd to 3rd there's a slightly less of a jerk and the rest of the gears are fine. Is this just the way it is or is this an issue? Thanks.

I have similar complaints about the 1st few gears in terms of smoothness. I notice a lot more jerkiness when it's cold out (so all of winter basically) and on cold starts. See if yours lessen with some heat in them. IT's not going to give you any information other than the condition at which it's worse in.

On my car, the 1-2 shift is jerky first thing when the car is cold. It just kind of winds up in 1st, and them slams into 2nd.
I've found that if after I pull out of the driveway, and do the reverse-forward shift, if I just let the car idle in gear for a few seconds before driving off the first shift is much smoother. Sort-of feels like the transmission just needs to build pressure or something, or the fluids just aren't flowing yet. Then again, I'm on a cul-de-sac, so I just sit in the road for 5 seconds. Busy road would be a different story. |

Have you ever watched the tach when this happens? For me, the jerky motion does not coincide with a change in RPM. Almost like the torque converter is causing the jerkiness and not the actual shift (I'm no expert on how the ZF8 operates though)? |

I also noticed this on my 2015 228i 6mt.
long story short, I did the clutch delay valve (CDV) delete mod and all my shifting jerkiness went away. get rid of it. edit: sorry, looks.like your an auto. my bad. going to leave this up for anyone with a manual! |

I've found that if you hit the right paddle once just after you've shifted into D, it'll be much smoother. These AT cars start off in second nicely; great in snow. Let the trans go back into D by staying off the hammer (you should do that when it's cold anyway) or shift through.
If the car has been sitting for a long time, it'll be jerky even when it's warm out. Good thing it's only on first-time start-up. Otherwise I'd think something IS wrong with the tranny. |
