B58 Turbo Discussion

Hey all,

Got beat by a 19T N54, and realized its time to seriosuly map out my turbo upgrade path options.

Vehicle is a ZF8 M240i (F series) fbo with the TU pump.

It is not a a daily but would like to keep it fairly reliable for fun drives.

Please reply with options, dyno numbers and supporting mods needed for certain kits/ HP target numbers.

I do plan to go all the way, with built trans and full frame at some point.

Feel free to post data logs, dyno numbers or draggy times.

Just get a legit hpfp, a turbo and run e50 and go mid 10s to high 9 or faster in the 1/4mile.. what numbers do you really need? If you're gonna do it right it's gonna be fast.

I'm on revision 2 of my E40 tune with Doug Newton and it went 7 sec. flat 60-130 mph in warm air. Should end up 6.5-6.6, and trap ~ 135 mph with DI only. Mods in sig. Built trans is back and is going in Monday, so I can resume tuning. We'll see if I want to go with port next spring.

My Vargas GC/Dorch Stage 1 setup went around 7.6-7.8 60-130 on an E40 Jordan tune that was never quite "right". I'll be posting the turbo/pump in the classifieds shortly if you're interested. Turbo only has 7k on it and the DS1 pump has around 22k.

TBH I have no number goals, would just like to push the car.

That said, I would like wiggle room. A full frame would provide that, and would be great for a show setting as well since it is seen from the top. Lag may be a concern, but it's RWD, so it's not my #1 worry.

I do care for reliability, since what's the point of a car that is always needing work.

Very impressive numbers right there, that's what our PS2 PI S55 M3 was running, maybe a little less.

My lowest shot for next upgrade would be PS800 and a Stage 2 HPFP.

Do you feel the need for a built transmission on the e40 tune? Also, why does Doug favor that over an E50?

Are you testing your E and calculating this mix perfectly, or running a flex fuel and doing ball park? That is onething I love about BM3 Stage 2+ E50 OTS tune, its pretty good at running well with a "eyed" mix.

Closest E station is like 90 minutes away, so I do VP jugs and E40 is just easier. I do it by math, so not precise. If you dial back the torque, the trans should be okay stock. Mine started slipping/shifting rough for whatever reason, so off to Pure it was. 72k on the car, for reference.

Awesome, really appreciate sharing your experience! Mines sitting just below 50k, I can live with around 20k before getting that built trans.

When you were stock trans, did you use XHP S3 or custom tune? I know there's someone out there that is an absolute madman with ZF8 tunes.

Stage 3, but Pure recommends running 1 or 2 at the most. I may look into a custom!
