Low profile tire nightmare
What's wrong with our summer tires? I already had to replace a rear one because of a nail that cost me $500 at the dealership. This morning I started driving my car and to my surprise the low pressure alarm came ON and you guessed it, on the same tire that I already replace one time. The tire is definitely losing air very rapidly.

It really puzzles me that people go to dealerships for tire changes. Why?! They rip you off so bad

Tire Rack and a local (reputable) tire shop is your friend.

My BMW dealership parts counter told me to chk their tire prices before ordering from TireRack at initial car purchase.
So I purchased my Michelin PSS through the dealer and their price was very similar to TireRack, plus they mounted and balanced without leaving any scratches on the wheel. |

I catch a nail on the center of the tire. I was able to have it repaired but the tire shop was not sufficiently cautious. They did not lubricated the wheel enough on their Hunter machine and the friction between the pad and the wheel ,as it was rotating, remove a little bit of the paint.

I lost a front tire to a nail. Discount Tires replaced it for $200.

Anybody swap to a higher profile tire on OEM wheels? Thinking about ditching the coupe I've got for a convertible, was thinking square setup this time with RFT to be immediately replaced with non-RFT higher profile rubber. The PSS summer tires are great, but useless if I can't actually drive the car without a tiny bump causing me problems. Sick of fixing wheels (which I think are horrible quality) and replacing tires.

I know I've seen some users with 17in rims and higher prof tires. Idk about 16in though.
If money was no option, 19's in the summer, and 17's in the winter. My 18's with RF's will have to do for now though |

I don't think you can find 17s that will clear the M Sport brakes.

I know there are some users here with 17's, but you are correct, it is something to take into account. Not all 17's will fit. Pretty sure they were on m235i's, so I assume they were M brakes, but I could be wrong on that part

I put 17" rims (for snow tires) on my 2018 230i which originally came with 18" staggered width rims and the M-sport brakes. The 17" rims fit (barely) over the brake calipers, this is less than 1/4" clearance, but this is the 3rd winter that I have been driving on these rims. My guess is that it would be necessary to actually mount the rims to test for a fit, but it would likely work.

17" Wolfrace (Alutec) 'Drive' 17x7.5J carrying 225/45-17 winter tyres. These fit over the M Performance brakes with space to spare. They're also much easier to clean than the BMW OE wheels.
If I lived in an area with poor roads I'd be quite happy to fit this size year 'round if it avoided pothole damage. Yes, you'd not get as much traction from the narrower (225 vs summer 245) tyres in summer, but better than regular damage.
