228i PPK/Tune
Hey guys,
My gf just got a 228i this past weekend. She wants a power bump since it's only at ~240HP. Is there a PPK or minor tune offered for 228i? I currently have the "free" one on my 135. I saw a Dinan one, but I don't think it's worth the cash. BTW, it has warranty. Any input would help! Last edited by shawnj; 02-28-2017 at 12:41 PM.. |

Here is the Dinan Sport Performance Tuner. If $300 is too much for you, I'm not sure what to say. If she wants a more full-featured, Stage 1 tune, that will cost a lot more but it carries a matched warranty and is worth every penny IMO.

There is no factory PPK for the N20/26 engine, and there are no inexpensive aftermarket flash tunes for the N20/26, but there are "piggyback" devices available. Dinan's sport tune is $300 and has an adjustable boost increase up to 4 PSI via bluetooth to an Android or IOS device. Burger offers a similar tune for $100 less, but does not have the BT link capability (manual adjustment). Both of those use a simple one-plug connector on the TMAP sensor for boost-only and offer a mild bump in HP and torque. Others with multiple plugs for additional sensors are more expensive ranging from around $600 to $1500 or more (Dinan), and can provide significant HP increases.

I just added the BMS Stage 1 tune and it's a totally different car now. I don't have M Sport so no Sport+. I commute 2k per month to work so the 2 hrs I spend in the car is much more fun now. I track my car once a year so this is just right.
I'm at 49K miles so warranty isn't an issue for me anymore.

I have Stage 1 on the Sport Wagon which is the same engine as GF car. I love it, totally transforms the car. The sport tune for $300 is nice but warranty doesn't hold a candle to the $1500 option which can be a big deal depending on your risk tolerance. Don't think the power delivery is the same as the map isn't as good. I'd never put anything that didn't have the matching warranty on my car, but as a 235 vert and a 328 wagon fully loaded they're each worth like 2x what GF's car is so that's on you to decide. That said I'd have to imagine if/when you have a major problem I'd rather be dealing with Dinan even on the $300 tune than someplace else, they have a longstanding solid reputation to protect. No one can decide for you if spending an extra grand to have the warranty is worth it, you need to decide that on your own. |

For a 'minor' tune, the Dinan Sport tuner seems to be a good choice. I prefer a flash tune but that's me . Interestingly enough, NO one talks about them..nothing on GSR (I know Matt is always busy), nothing on Mission, etc. Weird.

Just installed the Dinan Sport tuner today, drives like stock until you get on it and makes a noticeable difference. I'm happy with it for the price, i used to have JB4 and a downpipe and while it was quicker the Dinan drives better.
