No paddle shifters
I ordered a 228i M sport, and it was one of the first 228's in the city. The steering wheel is amazing, but for some reason it has no paddle shifters? Could someone explain why this is?

Its automatic, and I dont think I did. I went through the BMW online build your car thing a few times. and there wasnt any option that could have had paddle shifters in it.

here in europe on the website you choose which gearbox you want first and after you pick the m-sport pack.. so basicly the sportautomatic doesn't come with m-sport |

Back in 2013 the Msport package, didn't include the Sport auto transmission. It was an additional 500.00 option.

Allow me to give you the actual answer, as I went through this last year. When test driving several 2 series at different dealers, I saw some with the paddle shifters but more without them. After a lot of research, I found out that there is an "optional" automatic transmission. The STEPTRONIC transmission is a no-cost optional automatic. When I ordered my car, I had to explain to my dealer the exact code to use and reiterated which code not to use, so that I would be sure and get the paddle shifters included. You'll notice in the Steptronic cars, that not only are there no paddles but instead of a leather looking boot, the gear shift lever is in plastic. I don't recall exactly what advantage the Steptronic offered over the standard, but I knew I wanted the paddle shifters. Look at the ordering guide and you'll see there are two different codes. Btw, my theory on why dealers had more with the Steptronic than without, was because when they ordered their allocations, they saw a box to check for a no-cost option and figured they could use that as a selling point. Of course, that's just IMHO.

2015 - all 228i's in the US configurator come with Sport Auto/Paddle Shifters as standard equipment.

I went through the exact same problem. It was to the point that I ended up getting an entirely new car to replace the steptronic equipped vehicle. On the dealer level, no one really knew of any difference and went as far as telling me that the sport auto and steptronic were the same. Even the general sales manager had argued that all autos were the same.
Needless to say, I raised hell and now am the happy owner of a 2015 228i M-Sport with manual transmission instead. |
