I was looking at 1 series for years. Small, light, powerfull, and RWD really appealed to me. But the 1 just looks awkward to me. Dont get me wrong I would still drive one in a heart beat, it just doesn't do it for me when I look at it.

The 2 however, I fell in love with the looks right away. I think it looks great from any angle. I have had my 2 for over a year now and I still love to see it.

I honestly miss my little e82. what a great car. The performance exhaust on the 128i sounded so insanely good. I really miss those N/A straight 6's.

I sold my N54 135i about a month ago with 115,000 miles. Turbo wastegates were starting to go out and BMW quoted me over $8,000 to replace... lets hope the F22 on the way doesn't suffer the same fate! I have been without it for a month now and miss it terribly. I had the performance exhaust and it was the best sounding car on the road IMO.

As far as looks go, I really loved the 1er. Sure it had some awkward angles, particularly quarter shots from the rear. But the 2er has some quirky angles as well. Side profile of both cars are excellent, especially with the performance spoiler. That will be my first mod when my M240i comes in. The interior is a huge upgrade in the 2er in my opinion. But I had a pre-LCI 135i, without iDrive. I upgraded the radio with Dynavin and that was a huge upgrade, but I feel you get a lot more with the 2. Even without all the extra goodies.

8k to replace turbo wastegates? What kind of drugs are going on here, you can buy all new turbos for less than 2k....

People hate on what they don't/can't have. If the m235i outperforms the 1M, it's a superior car to the 1 series platform, as that was the "holy grail" model of that generation. Now, meet the M2 comp....

Steering feel, looks, etc is 100% subjective and nobody should be getting butthurt over what anyone else thinks, about their model of car. Personally don't care aside from how I feel, which is a happy owner of a 2 series model

BTW, in comfort mode (neutral steering weight), after doing full suspension mods and bushings, there is MORE steering feel in this car, than my neighbors stock'ish e92 M3, so anything is possible if you have a vision of making something the way you want it. These cars are a bit on the soft side, stock, though... But it's not a deal breaker whatsoever, and shouldn't be for anyone on the fence.

When my 135i lease was up, I bought a 235, I knew that I was just a notch above the 135i, but it had improved the fugly design and most importantly, they offered an LSD as a (expensive) PnP option. This car is perfect for me with the LSD, Dinan intake and a Stage 1 JB4, I have nothing left to be desired.

After I heard the M2 was about to be released, I had the bug and really thought I wanted one. But after the specs was released; I realized the M2 was basically the same as a 235i, with some fancy bodywork.. The motor was identical with a few unnecessary internal changes and they just added a higher tune boost level. They even used the same exact 335i turbo and 228i blow off valve. The torque-vectoring LSD from the M4 is really the only thing that makes the M2 shines above the 235i IMO. I tried pointing this out on the M2 forum, when the discussion was on the 235 and I was crucified. They weren't trying to hear it, even if it was factual. Some delusional guy even told me to go back to the 2er forum, like I was an immigrant in another man's country

To me, it's just a car; I could crash it tonight and have a different one tomorrow, so I call it like I see it but some folks take automotive pride very personal on these forums. From then on, I learned to keep to my opinions/facts to myself because some people here take it the wrong way..

It's like how the M2 owners are saying how ugly the M2 Competition is, how terrible it sounds. But in fact they just hate the fact that BMW made a new car that handles better, has a real M engine, with a slightly higher price tag.

It's freaking annoying; I could care less and I'm just there because I'm a 2 series enthusiast but you know the M2 Competition is obviously miles ahead in potential power and prestige in comparison to the current M2; so M2 owners are making it so clear that they're green with envy by being overly sensitive and bashing every little silly detail on the M2C, forcing you have to play alone, just not to upset them by tiptoeing around any exciting new facts..

They reminds me of when with my girl and she sees another hot female and ask me 'is she hot' and I have to delude myself and say 'of course not, dear'.... Bunch of mean girls..

a 2 owner here who actually thinks the 1 looks better than the 2
the 1 design wasnt constricted by the pedestrian safety regs that influenced rhe design of the 2 and make it elongated in ways it shouldnt be

the 1 has a nice squat clean design...but b58 over n54 any day...

Well each turbo had to be replaced because supposedly the wastegate system cant be replaced on it's own. The N54 has two turbos at roughly $2k a piece for genuine BMW. Then they quoted 16.5 hours labor @ BMW rates... I'm in no way justifying it ha. Found all the parts online for around $2500, still would have had to pay crazy labor somewhere. The whole engine has to be dropped to access it. This is my main fear with the B58. Oh well... buying new this time so I'll get some more life out of it before we cross that bridge ha.

I could of lived with the 135i looks, that was all good but the fact that BMW welded the rear Diff, instead of using bolts really erked me.. That car needed an LSD badly, my 1 leg peg burnouts were embarrassing...

Do you think it's because real men drive Fords or Chevy's.

I've been tracking my 128i for the last 3 seasons, it's really a great car for this. consumables are cheap, it's not too fast to scare, but not too slow that you're waving by cars on every passing zone. I like the 2 series a lot too, really considering having one along side my 128i. I'm grateful we've had 5 generations of the same idea: e30, e36, e46, e82, f22

The idea that any of these haven't been great, or that we need to choose which one is best at the exclusion of another is a false choice, not to mention just a waste of time.

This. +1. No no +5. Haven't been able to drive cars from across the whole spectrum yet, but I currently own a 2003 E46 and a 2015 228i. When I got behind the wheel, the 228i felt like home. Obviously it's newer and thus generally better than the E46, but I felt BMW's message immediately: Driving is fun and this is a damn good car to do it in. Both cars are a blast and you can feel more than comfortable switching back and forth. Looking forward to seeing what E30, E36 and E82 have in store for me as I imagine I'll enjoy all of them

This is pretty much the reason why I decided to get the 228 instead of another car. I enjoy spending $350 for new brakes instead of over $1000 that I would in an M car. Not really any more "fun" for me, just faster an only marginally. There are plenty of people who drive "faster" cars that are slower than I am in the 228. They get pretty butt hurt when they can't get past me. It's very entertaining.
