Thats how they make their money. Stirring it up. What really matters is what suits you, your style of driving, if you track it, the looks, sound, etc etc. All subjective. This subject could go on forever.

2015 BMW M235ix  [0.00]
At least when I bought my 2015, the difference between a 235 and a 228 with all the bits added that were standard on the 235 was not very large. Then I decided (OK, somewhat arbitrarily) that the 235 would holds its value better over the long run, which gave me enough of an excuse to buy the 235 (buy, not lease, so that the depreciation does make a difference).
We have the 2-liter 4 in our X3 and there is a big difference under acceleration between that and the 235 (though different vehicles). The 6 in the 235 is smooth, like butter, and very quick, while the 4 is much raspier, though it does the job, especially in Sports mode. A 6 will always be smoother than a 4, though it is also true that a Bentley W-12 will be even smoother. There, however, the cost to value ratio becomes pretty prohibitive.

This article in particular pulled some cords with me because I owned a 5.0 Mustang from 2012-2015 and my brother has had tons of Subaru cars. I have owned my 2014 228 for over 3 years now. In that time I have accumulated over 77,000 miles, done all my own maintenance after the "free" was gone. In this time I have come to realize that, for me at least, this is one of the best daily driver cars on the planet. Here's why.

Comfort, tech, FUN, uniqueness, fuel mileage to fun ratio, running costs, and lastly dependability.

Neither of the other two can say they have been trouble free in that same amount of time. My 228 will hold more value if all other things are the same, mileage, age, condition. Especially to a fellow enthusiast given the options in the car and the records. I chose the 228 over a beautiful black over coral red M235 because it was going to be better for me in the long run. It's been that and more. Long road trips, canyon carving, track days, work commuting. Stellar car.

Do what works for you OP.
