Brake Disc Cleaner
Hi,
I have just purchased a used f22 from my local BMW dealer and the brake discs have a very thin layer of rust and dust on them which I want to clean off and wondered if anyone knows the best way of going about it. Cheers Kev. |

Just don't spray brake cleaner on them; you'll melt the blue M Sport caliper paint, if applicable..

If it's rust, it will be on the steel portion of the rotor, which is coated/painted silver from the factory. The only way to get rid of it is to sand/repaint it. If it's the MSPORT Brembo brake package, and the aluminum hat in the center is corroding, you can use a scotch bright scrubbing pad and "polish" it back to life.
No cleaner will take off rust from a steel brake rotor, you'll just make a mess, imo...

The best way to clean brakes is to use them. Try a few hard stops and see if that helps.

My stock hat portion of my rotor wiped quite nicely when I washed the car last week ( car wash soap and cotton rag ) the crease where the hat meets the disc didn’t clean up as nicely but I may try a sonax style wheel cleaner next if I decide to get it perfect.
