On flat ground at ~65mph I saw a consistent 32-33mpg! It's great to see this thread - I just picked up my 2015 M235 with ~42k mi, I chose the 235 in part because the N55 seemed to be pretty reliable (for a BMW), so far it's been great! |

What is this EcoPro you speak of? I'm always in Sport. Ha ha.

He's in England. Their "imperial" gallons are 20% larger and they have generally slower highway speeds.

I know man, I was just poking fun because who actually uses that mode? Not me, that's for sure.

My average fuel economy on longish road trips has always hovered a bit below 30 mpg in a 235. I don't use EcoPro because I have discovered that it confers no benefit at speeds over about 60 mph/100kph, which is just too damn slow for me.
By the same token, driving in Sport mode on the highway is not only a waste of fuel, it is bad for the car, since it keeps the transmission in 7th gear at relatively high rpm for prolonged periods. Sport mode is for two-lane twisties, or if I just want to make noise around the neighborhood. It may also scare the deer, who are as abundant as squirrels where I live. |

I'm closing in on 28000 miles in a 2017 230i...so not high mileage overall, but probably high for the B46 crowd. Car has had no issues to date save for a few CEL gremlins that seem to be Dinan tune related...we're sorting that out with them. Yesterday, I couldn't avoid a couple really bad potholes/uneven spots and I don't think the alignment has been affected. Maybe it's just me, but these new electronically boosted steering cars seem to have better resistance to being thrown out of alignment. I remember my e46 had to be re-aligned like every 6-9 months.

My 16' M235i just clicked 34k. We bought a new house recently and my commute went to over 80 miles a day round trip. I've been averaging in the high 28-29 range for mpg which is incredible given the performance of this car.
For scheduled maintenance I'm on my 7th oil change and second set of tires. So far I've had the dreaded muffler valve replaced along with the rear trunk struts and front rotors/pads under warranty. Other than an intermittent lumpy idle after a warm start the car runs like a top. I've had 5 BMW's and the M235i is by far the most rewarding and special to drive. My lease is up in March and I think I'm keeping this one.

3rd set of tires, 2nd set of pads, original rotors, aTe fluid, stainless lines, aFe drop in filter, always use the BMW oil filter and Castrol Syntech 0-W40 Euro, Redline D4 ATF in the trans, Mobil 1 75-90 in the diff, original shocks/struts/springs, 2nd set of plugs. Still a blast to drive.

Do you feel the shocks/struts are still working well? I’ve never managed to get more than 100,000km (60,000 miles) out of a set of OEM BMW shocks and struts before they feel weak, even less out of most other manufacturers. Do you have the adjustable suspension? If so that is good news from a maintenance cost perspective.

We also have average speed camera stretches that are monitored by government agents over dozens of miles at a time, and lots of 50 mph sections for no special reason. Getting around the UK on motorways used to be efficient but we have double the numbers of cars on the roads in the last 30 years, and the same miles of highway :/ |

Birds claims that the suspension of the smaller BMWs is cheaply made, in efforts to keep costs down, that the shocks don't have good rebound characteristics even when new, and that in only a few short years they will lose all their pressure. Now of course, no aftermarket specialist in history trying to sell direct replacements has claimed "actually, the OE stuff is really good". So there's a bit of that going on. But the original shocks that once came out of my 13-year-old E46 - imagine that - weren't the sodden pretzel sticks that Life on the Internet might prepare you for. They still had plenty of resistance in them on compression and rebound, and while the actual ratings would have slackened in the intervening years, the improvement in ride and body/wheel control when the replacements were fitted was not night and day. However they were not "blown", "fucked", "trashed" or "dead". I likely would have left them on, if not for the fact that one of the fronts had developed some outer corrosion, and one of the rear springs had cracked at the bottom, and new dampers were a doddle to install when the car was already in the shop. |

I found this bit interesting. Are you moving on to something new? What? Why? Thought maybe the "high mileage king" might be in for the long haul.
