High mileage

Hey guys I was wondering what your thoughts and opinions are on a high mileage m235i it's a 2015 with around 71k miles it's got a good amount of goodies as in exhaust system, limited slip (factory) ,some Dinan lowering springs carbon fiber goodies they're asking 25k and the car has been serviced and taken care of throughout its life as far as I can tell from what I could find in my research.
Any help personal experience greatly appreciated

My 2014 228i has almost 77K miles on it. As long as you take care of it I don't see why anyone wouldn't buy one with higher miles.

My 2012 X3 is approaching 90K, runs like new but I do maintain it regularly at a garage that specializes in Eureopean cars. I am friends with the owner and he said there are many more miles left in it

My m235i only has 4,000 miles and I'm super paranoid for the future when my warranty ends. Yet, from what I've been told the n55 engine is bullet proof. I've also heard that it is a smart thing to do maintenance before the car tells you (according to a youtuber).

That's kind of a lot of money for a 15' with 70k imo. My 16' has 28k and has been bulletproof for the most part. I plan on buying out my lease which is up 3/19 for 29k. At that point it will have around 33-35k miles and still be under warranty.

Just a quick search on Autotrader showed at least 20 M235's (Verts, Coupes, RWD, xDrive) under 50k miles almost all priced 24-26k.

If you go for it, talk them down a few grand. If it's a dealer trade in then I bet they didn't pay more than 20k for it.

Of course have a pre-delivery inspection done and check the car fax.

Remember that goodies never increase the value of a car. If anything, they decrease it. Make a lowball offer, $22K, and see how they respond. You have nothing to lose.

If the car is well maintained and not abused, the car should last many more miles than that.

Pay a professional to inspect the car anyway (it's called PPI). Ask the pro to look for signs of accidents and abuse.

I’m at 53k now on my 235i and it’s been pretty solid minus a tpms issue and I had a hose clip break allowing the overflow reservoir coolant line to fall and rub a belt and ultimately spill out. But I mean I never even got to a low coolant warning point since I caught it immediately. I’ve been tuned and running e85 too

As a price reference, I just bought 2014 M235i/premium package, manual, with 5500 miles (not a misprint) CPO for $30K. If you take the CPO out that's $27.5K.

my car is 14 m235i and it has 72k miles on it. Still pull like a champ. The only major thing I had to replace was leaked gas tank at 48k miles but luckily I had it under warranty. If you can ask for full history record of the car I don't see why not. Hope you can get the ultimate ride that you're looking for

Same plans here! Lease buy is 31K end of December, which is a pretty good deal based on my research, (essentially all options and perf exhaust and LSD on it).

At only 90k, I would certainly hope so.

m235i-ZF8-RWD owner here with 129k+ KM daily driver with 45c 4 months summer temperatures and 90% humidity in Saudi Arabia Jeddah. (hard driver at the first couple years, normal driver to occasionally hard the last couple years)
the issues i remember i ran to are:
+ wiper fluid motor failed.
+ battery replaced once.
+ front fender Paint job from small bumps.

below are annoying issues (with no damage) so far by the following but might be immanent to a problem coming:

+ weird squeek sound on the right front dash (almost sounds from the corner or door) only on slow speeds and uneven road, got it fixed 1st time by the dealer and went away by replacing few parts, 8months later same exact sound comes back slowly, got it fixed by dealer again with more parts replaced, issue fixed. 9 months later up to today (sound is coming back but at much slower pace; once or twice a day, sometimes once or twice a week) no more warranty to cover this, so i will figure it out later or just live with it.

+ supercharge whining sound when accelerating 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear, With AC OFF or ON, not sure if it is coming from alternator, gearbox, turbo or engine, but definitely not a normal noise, but can live with it if it keeps running.

+ Hard shifting and clunk at Sports+ mode if not revving hard, shifts perfectly on down shifts and higher revs.

+ 1st, 2nd gear at slow speeds, exiting garage, parking lots etc, is hesitant and is all over.

shifting issues maybe resolved if i plan to do transmission maintenance.

I have a 2017 230i with 62,000 miles, first owner. I just had to replace the turbo coolant hose ($2,600) and the water pump ($1000). They found the turbo coolant leak during the 60k service ($900). I had done all the required maintenance. I have no idea whether this is a one time thing or whether this is the way things are going to go. Which is to say buying a higher mileage car is a gamble.

OP...

Lots of opinions here. My two cents...

I purchased my M235i x-drive in 2018 with 38K miles and have ~96K on mine now. I am the 2nd owner. I am planning on getting at least 250K on mine, barring winning the lottery (which will be a challenge since I do not buy tickets) or having someone give me a new Base M3, in which case, I will immediately make the change.

This said, my car, despite being 2nd hand has performed very well. It was well cared for prior to my purchase and I am rather meticulous about maintenance, since I expect my cars to be able to last for at least 250-300K miles.

Like any car, the M235 has certain "flaws". None of these is significant to determine ownership. I am not going to detail them here, you can read the forum to get the details. Overall, the M235 is a very reliable and robust car. The N55 is essentially bulletproof and the M235 N55 benefits from robust internal components that enhance longevity. My only concern would be the extent of modifications to the car you are looking at. If these are "boy racer" mods, i.e. ECU mods, etc., I would avoid the car as it was likely thrashed by an owner. LSD, suspension and cosmetic mods are fine. The LSD is an especially sound mod to the M235.

If the car was well maintained, and you have objective evidence to support this, and the ECU has not been modded, the car is likely worth buying. As noted, I would try to negotiate a better price; however, in today's market, this will be challenging.

Good luck with your decision. If you decide to go with a M235, you will not regret it!
