VMR,

It sounds like the ideal staggered setup for the F22 is 18x8.5ET40 with 235/40 and 18x9.5ET50 with 255/35. Is that option available, preferably in the V810 for the lighter weight?

Thanks.

I think that would be an ideal setup to get the most amount of rubber under the M235. I'm sure VMR will chime in, but I don't think VMR makes the V810 in an ET40 offset. They recommended an ET 45 offset and a 5mm spacer. I don't think spacers are ideal, but 5mm isn't much.

That fitment would definitely work, however, we do not offer the V810 in an ET40. The best solution would be ET45 with a 5mm spacer as mentioned above. The V810 is also not offered in an ET50 rear, only the V710. The ET45 rear, seems to be a bit hit or miss when it comes to a 255 tire. Many customers say it works just fine, however, every once in awhile, someone will report rubbing.

Its either going to be the V710 or V718. I'm just not sure what finish I'll go with as well. Leaning towards matte black. Probably going with the 18". For some reason I think the 19" just look too big for the car.

What are you guys opinion.

V718

or V710

on this car....

I would recommend the V710 because we have the ET50 rears coming available soon! The ET50 rear is prefered in order to run a 255 tire comfortably. The only thing is, we won't be receiving them in Matte Black, only Gunmetal and Hyper Silver.

Hey Fella's...

New member...first post... just got my M235i, Estoril/Oyster Dakota, ZF8, AWD. So far I LOVE it!... but I only have 160 miles on it...

I'm looking for a "summer" wheel/tire setup. I'll use the factory wheels and Pirelli All-Season Run Flats for my "winter" setup. I live in the largest city in North America with unpaved roads, (Lancaster, PA), so 19" wheels and ultra-low-profile tires are out of the question. Having said that, I'm perfectly fine with 18" wheels.

Bunch of questions... some theoretical, some practical...

1. Which is more important... "rubber on the road" or reducing "unsprung weight"? IOW, is a wider but heavier wheel/tire combo more beneficial than a light-weight but narrower wheel/tire combo?

2. With AWD, is it important or beneficial to use a "square" front/rear setup? Is there any upside/downside to a staggered setup with AWD?

3. What about a square wheel setup with a staggered tire setup?

4. If I want a square 18 x 8.5 wheel setup, what is the optimal tire setup?

5. Where can I find pricing for VMR wheels? I don't see anything on their website.

6. Where can I find the weights for the various sizes of VMR wheels? Again, nothing on their website.

7. What's the advantage of flow formed wheels?

Thanks in advance for your insights, and your patience with a new member.

You're killing me. The 710 and 810 look different, huh? I couldn't use the 810 on the front and the 710 on the rear, could I?

I like the idea of a square 235 set on the 18x8.5ET45 (front with a spacer for the track). For that, I would like the 810 for the weight and strength. If they looked the same, I could swap the wider 710 on the rear for the street...for looks...

First, ditch the Pirelli all seasons and get Michelin PA4 for winter.
Now on to the questions...

1. There isn't room for so much rubber that you'll feel a weight penalty. For summer wheels/tires, go as wide as you can. Max in the rear is 255 or 265 (pushing the limits) and front is 235.

2. On paper you will increase understeer with a staggered fitment although xDrive complicates this. Square setup is great if you can go wide front and rear, but we're limited in the front so I prefer to run staggered on this car.

3. Yes, you can do that but it might look a little goofy.

4. 235/40/18

5. https://europeanautosource.com/produ...nufacturer=129

6. Google

7. Weight reduction but with retained strength to the barrel. You save weight and wheels are strong.

For my xDrive M235i, if I were buying new summer wheels and tires, I would be going with 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear. Pair those sizes to 8.5" front wheels and 9.5" rear wheels. This is what I have with my winter setup and I honestly like it better than the OEM staggered summer setup. My winter setup actually feels more planted and both front and rear are significantly wider.

Thanks for the reply and the great info. I'll check out my options. I'm curious... why do you use the wider wheels and tires for your winter setup and the stock wheels and tires for your summer setup?

Dumb question but still crossed my mind, some cars (mostly exotics) run different diameter front and rear: corvette, ferari, etc

What would it look lile having an 18' front and 19' rear ? Anyone tried ?

Could look pretty mean ?

I see you make a couple of 18x9.5 wheel styles in ET50 -- 701 and 710. You make one 18x8.5 wheel style in ET40 -- 703 (which looks awesome, btw). No wheel style offers both, huh? Any chance that may change in the near future?

I would have liked to have put winter tires on my OEM wheels but I'm so in love with the PA4 for winter use that I'm limited in what sizes they offer. I see a lot of very cold rain but almost no snow so I didn't want a 225 square setup. 225/255 was what I wanted and had to get different wheels to make that fit. Now that I have the setup, it's better than the OEM kit, although I can't use it in the summer.

Now I'm trying to decide if I buy a separate summer set, but honestly there is nothing wrong with the OEM summer tires so I'm hesitant to drop $3k for new wheels and rubber.

To be honest, I don't foresee that happening. If you are interested in the V710, you could run an ET45 front with a 5mm spacer combined with the ET50 rear. Same fitment, just accomplished using a spacer.

The ET50's will be available sometime within the next couple of weeks or so. They are currently on their way to us. We show an ETA of 5/10 give or take a few days for port delays.

I'm not familiar with any plans to offer an ET50 V810, however, it's not outside of the realm of possibilities for the future.

The concavity with our wheels is going to relative more to width rather than offset. The ET45 and ET50 will have the same concavity profile.

They definitely look different, although they are similar in overall design. I suppose you could run the different wheels in front and rear, but it may look a little odd.
