What if you already have a the back-up camera and Nav from BMW? Will this still work and would you still need both units?

No it wont. This unit only works on cars without nav.

Just to clarify, the reason why it needs the other BimmerTech unit is because it provides an AV input. The stock BMW system has no AV Inputs.

Do you think it's likely possible? This is an insanely cool feature.

Great news guys Smartview is now available for cars with nav only one minor trade off, you have to set your idrive to split screen. On the left hand side you will be able to see smartview and on the right side to whatever you want to view.

Any videos or pictures on what this looks like?

Also, would we still need the multimedia interface?

Here's a pic of the split screen view. On the left side which occupies 2/3 of the screen you will see the smartview set up. On the right side you have quite of few display options to choose from like audio source, map view....

How cumbersome is it to get into the screen and get the nav going? I saw the review, install seems easy enough, and once its going it looks great... but wondering if anyone has any youtube demos from start to end...

based on what I've gathered, you turn on the car, make a selection in iDrive, select wifi network, put phone into airplay, go from there... would like to see how easy/quick it is to go through those steps.
