"I'm going to be glued to my TV + Computer at 6:00am Central Dec. 5th, for the reveal of the 50 Year anniversary Mustang."
We'll be on vacation, so I won't be rushing it. Anyway, this reveal should have been in April at the NY Auto Show to hit 50 exactly. Of course, me being a New Yorker doesn't in any way sway my opinion. And now, back on topic... |

getting tired of waiting to see if this car is going to be realistic or if its going to price itself outside of what i think is reasonable once optioned with the required goods.

The way this car has been handled is so weird to me - there hasn't been a comprehensive, global rollout of the car and available trims. Which just doesn't make sense. And who waits to release this info to their largest market (US) after other markets which are much smaller - again, no offense to Canada, the UK, and whoever else can configure a car. Seems half-assed and poorly thought out. Just my $.02.

Yeah I mean if they charge 2500 or 3k for Msport and pull that "must buy premium package in order to get lighting package so that those xenons cost $4500" like they did on the 1 series, BMW can forget it…just like they had to forget on the 1, at least where my money was concerned a couple years back. Also if there's no HK option like how there isn't one on the 320i, that's going to result in some reconsidering because i need tunes and i hate aftermarket stereos in this era when factory systems can be so good finally.
If a modestly optioned 228i Msport comes in at $40k+ (still fully expecting manual seats at this price point…), I'm out 100%. Too many other attractive options at that price point. get on with it already, BMW, these cars have been in production for a month. |

If BMW is Jacking the price (assuming options are ridiculously priced) for a properly optioned fun car, to a level of, "R_U KIDDING ME"...Well, I'll spend mine more wisely. |

the 1-series and now 2-series were never meant to be 'cheap' options within the BMW range in North America. If anything, they target a specific audience looking for a sports coupe in the more 'classic' sense of the word. I think some people tend to misunderstand and think they are supposed to be cheap....but they aren't and probably never will be. In Europe, one can get a 118i on the cheap.....but there's a reason we don't get those cars over here (BMW wants to stay premium....not practical). |

My guess is that the packages list will be somewhat smaller than what you can get for a 3/4 series, but a little expnaded beyond what was available for the 1er. We shall see... I'm telling you--you have got to utilize someone like David Aviles to work from the invoice price--it makes all the difference in the world. You end up getting your options for "free"--aka, the amount saved versus MSRP basically "pays" for the options you want to add on... The area that will really determine price, for leasing anyway, will be connected to the residuals and money factor. Based on those, you will be able to see how aggressively BMW plans to move these babies...and those numbers will not be very adventageous to people like us at the very beginning of launch, at least I wouldn't think... This is why the options list and pricing is so important--gives you a way to totally spec the car out and know where you're going to land from a financial standpoint...

People that walk into dealerships and pick off the lot are always gonna get screwed from that point of view. Why do you think all the cars on dealer lots have tons of shit on them? They aren't called stealerships for nothing...

but definitely ordering is THE best way to get what you want and not get what you don't want---and have the most control over pricing i think BMW have actually done very well pricing the 2-series. it's basically the same pricing as the 1-series with only a slight increase. I don't think people should be complaining too much really.... Last edited by IEDEI; 12-02-2013 at 11:26 AM.. |

For me, there are only a couple of "must haves"--heated seats and the dimming mirrors. It's nice because you can still get heated seats without ordering the CWP--but to get the mirrors, you had to order the Premium, which doesn't get you a whole lot else with the 1er... It seems to me that BMW is going down the Lexus route--you have to order $4K packages to get one thing that you want. It seems like more things used to be available "a la carte", but less so these days... I understand why they do it--it's just not as nice for the customer...

I want an affordable 2 series, that's not asking much especially since I'm looking at a lowly 228. Personally I always found it odd that a luxury car came so stripped out, one would initially expect a luxury car to be well equipped to begin with. I'm not on board with paying north of $40k for a 228i, no way. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect this entry level coupe to come in halfways decently equipped for under $40k, and by that I don't mean $39,900. Should be but won't be on the 228i. That said though, it kind of gets old having to get the same tired recycled Msport look/package on everything BMW for it to be a decent looking/performing car. I mean we will see where it lands, the starting price is attractive for sure. I am still excited about the car, but I'm also a little tighter with who I fork over my hard earned cash to these days which I don't think is unreasonable. |

Man I paid $47K for a Z4 with the cloth top back in 2004 so BMW probably is not you answer for a $37K car.

That being said, the 228 should be a good value--you're going to get into the 300 BHP range with a cheap flash and the car should be nicely balanced. There were some guys that had a 128i on here that did a bunch of stuff to it--spending roughly what a stock 135 cost at the time...and ended up wiping the floor with many 135s at the track...it's a good thread, just can't remember how long ago that was...my point being that as long as you get what you want, you're gonna be happy. Eff everyone else.
